I think manipulation is the greatest art of them all
(via mecixan)
drakexthornley:
Drake ignored her remark and gazed momentarily at the podium from which President Battenberg spoke from earlier in the evening. âPhoenix and I spent the first ten years of our lives in matching outfits and weâre still recovering,â he remarked with half a grin. âIâm not having it either. Blonde is different enough.â
She slumped against the wall behind the plant-pot. âFine,â she sighed, in a way that suggested she did not agree at all. âIâll work on you. Until then... How do you feel about sparkly eyeliner? I think it would make your eyes pop.â She flexed her fingers at him with one hand to emphasise her point, the other still holding her drink.

Drake touched his fingers to his head, stroking it as though it would return the blonde, straightened hairs back to their curly, black selves. âIâm only seventeen,â he reminded her, kindly waving away the offer to take a sip from her glass. Reaching seventeen when sixteen looked like the end was an accomplishment, but not one that rewarded him with the right to do whatever he pleased. Nobody would bat an eye if the newest victor became drunk, but that didnât make it right to do. âItâs Phoenix. He just wants to make sure Iâm doing ok. I think heâs still mad he couldnât come with us on tour.â
âI had my first whiskey when I was fifteen. Nobody gives a crap, kid.â Still, she pulled the glass away, wiping at the lipstick mark sheâd left around the rim with her thumb. âI would have loved to bring Phoenix along. We couldâve done you all up in matching outfits and confused the fuck out of everybody.â Proserpina let out a sigh. There were so many opportunities with twins, but Elevenâs escort was such a drag. âIâve been trying to talk Moxie into letting me do pink highlights for you. Sheâs not having it.â
lanaxnolan:
Losing Nolie so close to the end had been a shock to Lanaâs system. She had been so sure they could do what theyâd done with Kelvin again, bring home another Victor, make the District proud. The atmosphere at this ball was very different to the one just six months ago. For one thing, there were actually people here. Lana was also far less hopeful about what was coming than she had been six months ago. Her eyes darted around the room, settling on someone who seemed to be walking towards where she currently sat. She gave them a nod as they sat down. âHaving fun?â
âOf course Iâm having fun, Lana. Youâre here.â She crossed her ankles and rested her elbows on the table, leaning closer to the trainer with a soft smile. âYou, on the other hand, do not look like somebody whoâs having a good time. Why are you sitting over here all by yourself? You should be up! Dancing! Talking to people!â
drakexthornley:
The red carpet beneath his shoes disturbed him in such a way that he intentionally continued to find himself on the dance floor, despite not wanting to be there either. His visits would only last so long before a kindly sponsor or giggling Capitolite came along to take advantage of the photo opportunity or chat about his anticipation for the upcoming Games. Not looking to cause even the slightest bit of trouble on his first official night in the public eye, Drake spoke politely with everyone and anyone, desperately hoping there wouldnât be another request for him to perform in public.Â
The boy wormed through the crowd until he was near a potted tree he was delighted to find wasnât fake like the ones on the streets. He stood behind it for a moment for a breather, checking his phone to find three âAre you alright?â texts from Phoenix. He smirked and was almost too involved responding to see the next approaching person. âOh, hi there!â he spewed automatically, shoving his phone into his jacket pocket.
âYou do know that blondes are supposed to have more fun, donât you?â Proserpina said as she approached him. She raised her pint glass of whiskey mixed with cola to her lips, then held it out to the teenager. âDrink. Itâll help you relax. Probably.â She had no intention of getting him drunk at his own party, but he did look uncomfortable, and people were going to notice. âOh, and if youâre going to text your mom or whoever, Iâd do it in the toilets. Thereâs slightly more privacy there.â
anon-subject:
Anon nodded, very visibly uncomfortable with the seemingly normal conversation. He knew exactly why - his name wasnât his real name, and he had no idea what name his parents mightâve actually given him. âYes, I can understand thatâŠâ he muttered, beginning to wring his hands together as he became impatient for the topic to end. âOh. I didnât realize spying was just about what you wore or sleeping. That sounds fun. But I donât really like suits.â Anon was hesitant to look at the womanâs phone screen but eventually did so, none of the titles really jumping out at him at first. âThey all look interesting. You can pick, since this is your idea and that is only fair. Right?â
Proserpina narrowed her eyes at him. âAre you alright there, sweetheart?â Anon was an odd name, but sheâd just assumed heâd had strange, bohemian parents; possibly ones who misunderstood when old poems were signed -Anon. His reaction made her question this assumption, however, and she wondered if perhaps they had more in common than she thought. Maybe he was here under a fake name, too. âYou just havenât had a good suit. Iâm telling you, Annie, the right suit is like... Itâs the comfiest thing.â Rolling her eyes at him, she took her phone back and scrolled through to the top. âWhat about this one? âA woman is kidnapped by her best friend the night before her weddingâ. Itâs a rom-com. And if the poster is anything to go by, the costume department really liked orange. And tulle.â She shrugged, âShould be fun for that reason alone.â
stellaeverwood:
âReally? What makes you interesting?â the woman replied, struggling to bite her tongue when it came to her comments, just managing to hold them down. âThen donât watch them, stick to the classics. I do.â
âWhat doesnât make me interesting, love?â She said with an air of confidence. âI know you think that makes you admirable, but there are only so many times I can watch Mr Darcy tell Elizabeth Bennett he âloves her ardentlyâ,â this, said with air-quotes, âbefore it gets dull. Besides, theyâve remade the classics so many times now, thereâs barely any money in it anymore. The movie studios will want something fresh. Like me, and my beautiful face.â
hermesmagnifico:
âObviously,â he spat, unamused this time with the girlâs attempts at being charming. âA biopic highlights all time periods of a personâs life, so childhood would be essential. He would have played the carefree, rebellious teenager I was and from then on, I would step in to replay the events of my lifetime thus far. Nobody knows what those experiences were like more than I, no? Iâve simple accomplished too much in my near four decades to wait until my life has come to an end to capture it in film. The movie would be too terribly long, even if brilliant.â
âFirstly, carefree and rebellious teenager? Why, Maggie, you almost make it sound like fun.â For Proserpina, both traits had inadvertently become ingrained into her character thanks to her time in high school, which was spent doing things her father didnât approve of as much as possible. Somehow she struggled to understand how Hermes could be the same. âAs for the second part, do you act? Itâs a difficult career to get into, so Iâm told, and even harder to master.â
vegalattimor:
âI donât know how I feel about that,â Vega chuckled before smiling.  âOh yeahâŠthat would be incredible but I highly doubt that my brother would be willing to do that.â
âIf anybody can talk him into it, itâs you,â Proserpina assured her. âHe adores you, Vega.â
anon-subject:
Anon assumed from her expression that she was very deeply upset and immediately felt guilty. âI am so, so sorry, of course I like it,â he assured her. âIâve just never had a nickname before.â He nodded slowly, though the idea of a good movie being interrupted by sudden clip from the arena made him uneasy. âWhatâs a Bond movie? How many are there?â He shrugged, lifting his hands with the palms facing up. âAny genre. Wait! No, comedy.â
âNever?â She could barely imagine it. Sheâd had various nicknames throughout her life, some more pleasant than others. âI suppose you have a nice, short name to begin with. When your parents decide to call you Proserpina, you end up with all kinds of nicknames.â It entertained her, seeing what people came up with for her. âOh, hundreds. Theyâre about this spy who does... you know, spy things. Wears a suit. Sleeps with everybody.â She brought up the comedy movies and moved to show Anon her phoneâs screen. âThese are the comedies showing at the moment. Anything catch your eye?â
surya-mirga:
âWell, yes, of course I would consult. I hardly trust anyone to get my outfits perfectly right. And I have to make sure itâs not slanderous.â She giggled and shrugged. âA very valid point from you, too. What brought this line of questioning to mind? Are you planning on producing a movie about your life?â
She shook her head. âDaddy would never allow that. Heâs very particular about keeping the behind-the-scenes bits of the company a secret. And my former fianceâs murder is still technically an open case, so I donât even know if it would be legal to mention that.â As much as Proserpina loved keeping secrets, it did mean a glamorous biopic was out of the question. âI would make a fucking awesome director, though, letâs be honest. I could direct your movie, starring you.â
selina-flux:
Selina shook her head, still as annoyed as ever. âIf you move there, I will jump out of the train and onto the tracks. Sounds like a simpler way to suffer.â How could someone be so pretty, but so annoying?
âBut so much more boring,â she sighed. âSugar, people would literally kill to live with me. And Iâd get to design you cute clothes, so youâd be getting a really great deal, for free.â
selina-flux:
âThen Iâll keep my clothes ugly to piss you off.â Selina hissed, only to step back in surprise when the girl bopped her nose against hers. What was wrong with her? Shock was written all over her face as she stared at Proserpina in disbelief. âWhat the hell is your problem?â
Proserpina just laughed harder, eventually having to go sit down before she ended up on the floor. âOh my god, I love you,â she forced out. âCan I come style for Five? I feel like youâd be fun to share a floor with.â
lanaxnolan:
Lana did nothing to hide her grimace at the nickname that had been provided without her permission. âIâm not interesting.â She retorted. In a story of her life, Lana doubted she would come across very well. More like a coward than anything else. âUh-huh.â Lana scoffed, though she was slightly taken aback by the particular compliment. âMaybe if this job falls through Iâll sign up for acting classes.â She deadpanned.
âI can recommend you a guy,â Proserpina offered. Her old singing teacher had a foot in the musicals industry. âOr you could be a model. Get people to pay you to do that cute little frown of yours.â She smiled at Lana, delighted by how grumpy she seemed. âYou wonât mess up this job, though. Youâre a good trainer, Lana,â she said in a rare moment of complete sincerity. âTwo are lucky to have you.â
stellaeverwood:
âWhy would someone make a movie about you?â the woman replied, arching an eyebrow as she aimed a somewhat disgusted look in the others direction. Not out of dislike, she hadnât made that judgement yet. No, it seemed to be a natural look for the trainer, borne out of naturally disliking pretty much anyone she came into contact with. A reflex, hate first ask questions later. âNo.â
âBecause clearly theyâre running out of ideas, and Iâm very interesting,â Proserpina explained seriously. âThey released a movie about a singing goldfish last week. If that doesnât say âdesperateâ to you, then I donât know what will.âÂ
