If you allow yourself to think about it, you believe Postman hates you. How could he not? You've done nothing but ruin the only place of his existence, despite its dying state, it's still a place for him, somewhere he could call a "home" at the very least or something close to it.
The berating words he uttered before, the hatred and betrayal in his eyes as he holds that riffle and aimed it to you.
Yeah, he definitely hates you and as much he hates you, you don't have the heart to blame him after you continuously cause irresistible damages upon his game until beyond repair with you messing around with its codes each resets you made.
The fire around you continue to crackle, slowly dying as it has nothing to trail towards to keep itself alive, kind of like your current sorry state. Your body had become numb, almost peaceful if it's not for the continuous screen glitches drawn surrounding your eyelids and body, the awful headache forming in your head, and how you're slowly deteriorating into small pixel particles.
"Pathetic."
Your head move to the side sluggishly, catching the familiar sight of the glitching black figure hovering above ground with strings surrounding his menacing figure, staring dagger upon your glitching figure with disdain.
"Oh, hey Smiley."
"Don't call me that," His voice turns glitchy for a second as he snaps at you, you let out a small laugh followed with painful groan as his feet digs into your stomach, "You're pathetic excuse of a player — you have the ability to roam free across any existing worlds without anything to hinder you, yet you trade those abilities to lousy coding existence in this dead game."
"At least you're free from RIS now," You mutter, "that's the end of our deal anyway."
"No."
You groan painfully as he stomp his feet once more, digging his heels to your stomach deeper to elicit more pained gasps and cries from you, "our deal contains your ability to get me out off of this damned game that kept me unable to do anything, now you're nothing but bunch of broken codes waiting to vanish to thin air—
"You choose a path you can't escape from."
Perhaps the smoke finally gets you and make you cough, but you're very aware it's not, your fit of small laughter filled with pain and wheeze, your vision becomes blurrier as second pass while SMILE looks at you with frustration, "maybe you're right, yeah."
Despite the glitches surrounding your vision, your eyes linger upon the night sky, staring blankly upon the pool of stars dancing above you aimlessly — a mockery of your selfish choices.
You couldn't help but wonder how Postman is doing, "I hope the stars shine brightly for him over where he is now, we do promise to stargaze for the last time... or maybe he's way too busy now with his new friends."
SMILE could only scoff as he looks down at your pathetic state, you're slowly vanishing as the glitches tore you apart, starting from your legs as blood continue to seeps through the open laceration, slowly making their way to your abdomen, yet you don't react with pain and continue to look up at the stars solemnly as your eyes grow heavy with the more blood you lost.
You feel the familiar feelings of strings wrapping around your figure, you don't react as it pierced your skin and draw more blood from your fragile body, you don't react at all as he gave you that familiar nasty look and only giving him a tired smile in return of knowing your end.
"I hope you're happy, Player."
"Thanks, Smiley."
"For the last time do NOT call me that! "
You hope you did the right thing, and Postman lives much happier now with new friends and more to make.
Reset.
"I— I could fix this; I could get you out of here!" He watched as you hissed in pain upon the glitch tearing you apart, tears striking your face, and yet you continue to mess around with the codes of his game, the fire from the broken-down truck crackle mockingly at your flimsy attempt.
"Why I can't—!"
Reset.
He watched as you grow desperate, he doesn't understand the words you uttered, something about a repeating loop of he couldn't escape from.
Something about Deja vu.
The fire surrounding him continue to crackle as he holds the riffle tight in his hand, hastily pointed it towards your whimpering figure.
"I'm trying— I'm trying. I don't you want to be stuck here forever, Postman, I... I'm so sorry—"
"Give me a break, Player!"
Reset.
The fire feels like it mocks the Player's entire existence and their attempt at breaching his game, "... I'm trying, I'm sorry, Postman...
"I want you to be free, I want to see you happy."
Reset.
Reset.
Reset.
Re—
"I can get you out of here," There's relief in your voice yet now you look more tired, something Postman himself can't understand, there's genuine happiness adorning your face as his heart hammer in his chest at the sight, "... It's not much, but I hope you'd be happier when you get out off of here and make some friends better than me, Postman."
"Player, what did you—"
The screen finally halted its own coding, a new screen appears, much smaller and hover in front of you, "transfer postmanfiles.exe to Forsaken experience." your hand pressed against the button to continue the program, typing away extra commands and changing the files name, "allow 'Postman' to enter any experiences in near future (exclude 'A Nostalgic Hangout Game...?')."
Your hands hover and press the button once again to continue, and finally the last warning screen pops up, "these commands will bound you and corrupt your personal codes and databases, are you sure to continue?"
"Goodbye."
Reset.
What do you do when you fall asleep, and immediately getting shoved with past memories of the same scene over and over again? Each one of them are different, but each of them are genuine, it was just locked away from yourself to keep you sane, but now with no one to lock them up, you remember every little details of it.
Postman could only stare upon the dark ceiling of the cabin, he hasn't given a cabin of his own like other survivors he had make acquaintances with, he doesn't mean to be here in the first place after all.
The Spectre, someone he soon recognized with by hearing from other survivors, doesn't planned his arrival at all, which leads to more curious gaze from others — he turns down their questions, kindly informing them that he's uncomfortable talking about it.
Waking up and remembering every awful word he had uttered to you, every berating thing he had screamed to your face, completely ignoring your pained face as he point the riffle to your face in desperation to keep his original game safe from SMILE's influences. Not knowing you've been trying your best to grant his wish when it cost of your own life.
He want to throw up.
Postman quietly shifts from his thin makeshift mattress other survivors graciously had made for him from spare blankets and spare pajamas from Elliot.
Making his way to the kitchen to grab a glass of water before going outside — others had informed him of fresh drinkable tap water only available from outside the cabin.
His eyes linger over the eternal night sky, the flickering stars dancing across the black void, brighter and more colorful than he allowed to remember than his original world.
You'd adore the sight.
Postman thinks to himself.
He could only scoff, rubbing his tired eyes and forcefully tore his attention from it, his chest feels tighter the more he let his mind wander towards you.
He wishes he could dig his hands deep into his chest, claw his skin, and tore his heart out and throw it away, it's suffocating.
Postman eyes trail forward and immediately catching the sight of the silver faucet close to the ground, assuming it's the one the survivors had mentioned to him earlier.
He makes his way towards it and squat down, putting his empty glass underneath as he turns the faucet on, silently watching the water floor to the empty glass before lifting it to his face and take a sip.
"Good evening, Postman."
He sputters and choke on his drink, one hand hastily punching his chest while the other placed against the cabin's wall for support as he continues to cough and gasp from water clogging his throat.
"Ah, my apologies, it was never my intention to startle you."
Postman wheeze and cough when he slowly regains his sense, slowly rising his head to catch the sight of one of the survivors, he still found himself struggling to remember names of others, but he does remember each of everyone's little quirks that he had shown.
He coughs to his hand after fully finally regaining his composition and stand properly, finally facing the survivor near him, "it's fine haha, and uh.." He couldn't help but mutter, embarrassed for forgetting their name.
"Two Time."
"Ah, yes, Two Time!" His awkward chuckle fill the surrounding, slowly dying down as Two Time continue to stare at him in silent with the same stretches smile across their face, he clears his throat whilst his eyes linger down to their loose sleeping attire, noticing the empty glass on their dominant hand — assuming they were planning to drink some water too but stumbled upon him.
"How are you settling in the cabin?"
Postman faces them once more after he's been trailing off again, it's been like this all night the moment he arrived into this world, he can't help his mind to wonder nowhere now he has much freedom from his old coding.
He stares at them.
They stares at him in return.
He pursued his lips as he maintains eye contact with them, painfully awkward, "it's... Fine. Fine and dandy, a bit disoriented at first for appearing here out of nowhere." He internally strangles himself for the awkward chuckle he makes to light up the air.
Two Time hummed softly in acknowledgement, eyes continue to stare in silent curiosity upon the new survivor, "Indeed the circumstances you found yourself in was definitely not in your favor, especially ending up in this sinful realm without clear understanding of its reasons, would be frustrating."
He definitely knows why he's here.
Yet he can't utter the words out, unsure how to explain it to them that he was once stuck in an abandoned dead world and was set free by someone that sacrifice their own life for him, allowing him a second chance to live.
"May I drink?"
"H-huh? Oh yeah, sorry, go on."
He internally curses himself for blocking the faucet, hastily he moves and watches as Two Time kneel down to fill their own glass.
The water flow into their own glass and they took a sip, no sound was made and the silent between them feels natural, comforting even.
He can't help but ask, "Two Time?"
"Yes?"
Postman pursued his lips, eyes trailing down to the glass of water in his hand, he watches the water dance around due to him twirling the glass.
"What will you do if... your friend sacrifices their own life in favor to give you a second chance to live? a second life?"
"..."
There's a shift.
Sudden but subtle, something in the air grows heavy after he spoke. Postman blink and drink down his own saliva that start to gather in his mouth without notice, his eyes shift from the glass in his hand to his night companion besides him.
He was taken back by the intense gaze Two Time has given him, it was not like them staring at him, but rather looking somewhere more far away, their pose became stiff and their shoulders squared.
Before he could speak, they murmured prayer, "May the Spawn bless their soul, allow them to rest on their side on its final destination, and bless thou with their sacrifice. A noble cause they had made for thou..."
His mouth opened and shut as they continue their sudden prayers for him, he could only listen and doesn't have the heart to disturb them, yet hearing their words done nothing but make him sick — the idea of Player ending their life for him was enough to make him balk.
They soon finished their prayers and unclasped their hands, their smile are much more stretched than before, smiling ear to ear, almost unhinged.
Yet despite that, Postman couldn't help there's something off about their joyous claims, a harrowing guilt buried deep underneath the soil.
"I'm thrilled we share something in common, Postman. Bless the Spawn's kindness for allowing our fateful meeting, a companion sharing the same fate."
"I—"
Two Time move swiftly, almost hastily trudging their way toward their own personal cabin, their tail swaying comfortably behind them before halting, looking back towards him with a joyous smile, "I wish you a wonderful night, Postman. May the Spawn bless your soul and grant you peaceful slumber.
"Tomorrow, possibly, would be your first match against formidable foe."
He could only stare at their back as they disappear from his view, not given a turn to express his own feelings from their words and prayers, his lips pursued once more before they sigh tiredly.
Too many things had happened today, it best he follow Two Time's advice on taking a rest, as much he found it slightly off with how they exclaim it, their words are genuine.
He blinks, now properly consider all Two Time's words, confusion etched upon his face as he recalls their praise of Spawn, the spawn point. The same sun-shaped spawn point that will spawn curious players across different world and allow them to experience new wonder of creations by different devs.
As much as I speak quite formal myself daily, I'm not sure I properly capture Two Time's speaking mannerisms — especially their shakespearean way of prayers, since I'm not an english speaker myself and doesn't know much of different words to consider, I'm deeply sorry for any mischaracterization of them when I literally claim them as my dearest blorbo <\333
Also I'm suck at comfort, I just know how to make character suffer through unimaginable horror
I probably gonna touch up this chapter in the near future after playing the second and third hangout game series and understanding twoie (two time) more.
