Sam raised a brow as Rachel rambled on and on and even went onto tell him exactly what her type was. He of course knew Hugh Jackman since he was part of the X-Men series and was Wolverine. However, he did not know who John Hamm was. He kind of couldnât help to smirk at the name. It sounded like a name you would give to a character who was a pig just to be ironic. It seemed as if the brunette couldnât seem to stop herself for a moment, but eventually she asked what his type was personally.
The blond couldnât help to shrug, as he never really thought about it really. He always tried to date certain girls in high school in order to blend in and be popular, but that was in the past and Sam was done with that. At this point, he just now wanted to be himself and not really want to try to impress anyone. âI do not know⊠I donât think I have one. If I have one, I do not know it yet. Someone who accepts my nerdiness. How about that?â He went onto say with a chuckle. âAlso, maybe a brunette. Iâve dated too many blondes in the past. Besides, now that I think about it just about any girlfriend I had looked as if they could be related to me. So, maybe someone a little different, unique.â
Rachel listened carefully to Samâs description of his ideal other half. In her honest opinion, his type was rather simple but she knew her new friend was a good man or at least he looked the part. Did she misinterpreted his words or did he mean he was done with girls in general? Perhaps it was just her biased opinion since she really just wanted to find the perfect boyfriend for her best friend. Rachel was familiar with dating people similar to her considering one of her exes was a huge broadway star called Jesse St. James. The relationship couldâve developed further if it wasnât for his awful decisions, he chose his jerkass friends over her. Also cracking an egg on her forehead. That made her think of giving up on boys forever and just focus on her dreams. Unfortunately she was a hopeless romantic and it seemed rather impossible not to look at any handsome man with a toned body and all the characteristics she mentioned previously to Sam.
âThen I wish you the best on your quest for your ideal husâwife. I mean boâgirlfriend.â She quickly fixed her mistakes and covered her mouth after she finished her sentence. Her intentions were good but one of her biggest flaws was revealing information she shouldnât at the less fortunate times. One of her dads, Hiram Berry, had a tendency of doing exactly the same. âI beg you pardon. I had two glasses of wine yesterday night and I think theyâre still in my system.â She smiled at him once more before walking away with slow steps. âThis was a nice talk, we should do it again sometime soon. I guess Iâll see you later, Sam. Thanks for the sandwich!âÂ
Lunch, Interrupted // Samchel
âMac and veggies?â He repeated. âI guess I could.â It sounded like a weird combination. Of course, not too strange, but he couldnât imagine one, or the other without having some sort of meat. The idea of mac and veggies sounded like an incomplete meal. For a little while, Sam began to feel strange as Rachel began to moan as she was eating his sandwich. He could understand making a little noise. He did it from time to time. However, the brunette couldnât seem to stop moaning and the blond raised a brow as she said âgayâ, but then corrected herself by saying âgreatâ.
With the questions that Rachel was asking and the way she was acting, Sam couldnât help to feel a little awkward and almost uncomfortable in the otherâs presence. He wanted to be as kind and polite as possible, but he had to be honest. âIâm not interested, Rachel,â he replied, accidentally in a blunt manner. He didnât mean to be so forward, but he couldnât think of a way to let her down gently, because he knew if he did, he might back out half way through. So, it just came out. âSorry that I just blurted it out, but Iâm not into you that way,â he confessed.
Rachelâs eyes widened when Sam confessed he had no interest in the miniature diva. A loud cackle came right after his confession. All this time he thought she was talking about herself, trying to make a move, and it couldnât be more far from reality. Of course Sam was a handsome young man with a six-pack but he wasnât her type at all. âOh no. I beg you pardon for giving you the wrong impression. You see, I tend to be very curious upon meeting new friends but it doesnât mean I want some kind of romantic connection with them. Just ask Kurt. Youâre so not my type.â The brunette couldnât stop giggling but at the same time she wondered if she shouldâve played it out but it was already too late. âIâm not into you either, so that makes two of us.â
At least the atmosphere changed once those feelings were clear. It seemed like Sam was holding back for a reason and now Rachel finally knew why. Of course sheâd have to be far more prudent if she wanted to get the answers she was looking for. âMy type is more of a John Hamm meets Hugh Jackman. He has to be interested in being successful and charming or else he can look for love elsewhere. No offense. Also Broadway knowledge is a must. Blonds arenât really my type. What about yours?â Rachel had a tendency of talking more than she should sometimes, but hopefully Sam wouldnât hate her too much for backhandedly insulting him.

Do you have any idea what youâre talking about? No. Why, does it sound like I do?

Sam finished cutting it in half and put it on a separate plate and placed it in front of another chair so she could enjoy the sandwich. Once doing so, the blond sat back down at his seat. âDonât be too impressed. I can make mac and cheese. I can fix a bowl of cereal,â he joked before adding, âAlso, I can cook beef, but it will either be really pink, or really well done⊠And I mean, really well done.âÂ
He then took the opportunity to take a big bite of his sandwich. He hummed as he tasted all the different flavors of meet and the dressing and swallowed before replying to Rachelâs question. âI do. I used to also have this really strict diet too when I was really obsessed with trying to fit into school, but thatâs not a priority anymore,â he explained before taking another huge bite of his sandwich. âAlso, back home, we always have to share everything. So, I like to take advantage of having my own foodâŠâ Suddenly, he realized how that might sound. âNot that I do not mind sharing with you, just saying⊠Kind of different with two little ones. The thing is, before you know it, thereâs a dozen cookies and soon thereâs two left,â he further explained before taking another bite again.
âYou wonât have to worry about me chewing on your raw or well done meat. I barely eat it. Have you tried making mac and veggies? I cook them for Kurt all the time and he loves it.â Rachel took a big bite out of her half of the sandwich and moaned quite loudly as she tasted the different ingredients. Even a sandwich can taste like gourmet food when someone is hungry. Sam was definitely a great cook. Maybe he had other different attributes besides his handsomeness. If Sam was Kurtâs type then sheâd teach the boy how to cook for her best friend. Maybe instead of having one gay best friend, she would have two. Wouldnât that be a fabulous idea? She thought to herself. A big dreamy smile on her lips as she envisioned being the surrogate mother of their future baby. Of course she had to snap out of it before her newest roomie thought she was crazier than she looked. âGay...I mean, great.â She acted as if she paid attention to Samâs previous words.
âIâve been an only child since my birth and I could not imagine having to share things especially as a kid. But I guess sharing comes naturally to you. Youâre a good kid, Sam.â She winked playfully. âI know youâve talked a lot about your family and how much you appreciate them, but is there anyone else that might be in your mind all the time? Someone back home? Perhaps a girl?â She lowered her voice right after her question. âOr a boy?â The last words were uttered so quickly and in such a low voice that it was likely that he didnât get to hear them.Â

â⊠Okay.â Sam was just saying it to be saying it since it was just a phrase. However, he didnât mean to get that kind of response from Rachel. As strange as it sounded, Sam didnât think he ever met someone who was Jewish before. Perhaps, he seen someone in passing back home, but never personally known anyone who was. Besides, it wasnât considered very Christian-like to take the Lordâs name in vein. However, his parents werenât here to get on his back. Back at home, for awhile he couldnât even say the word âpissedâ, because it was a âbad wordâ.
âItâs just a sandwich,â Sam went onto say, as he looked down at the huge sandwich that was in front of him. âNo cooking required,â he added, as he pulled open a bag of chips. âBut to answer your question, Iâve been here all morning⊠I woke up late. I didnât really mean to. And then I worked out, so now Iâm eating.â He grabbed a knife and asked, âYou want to have half? I mean, I can eat the whole thing, but I probably shouldnât. Itâs really big so it can easily feed the both of us.â
Rachel took her jewish roots very seriously. Her religion (as well as her talented voice) made her the special star she was and she was more than proud to represent her community. Also as a Barbra Streisand fan, it pulled her closer to her idolâs level.Â
âI can see that.â She replied as she took a closer look at the sandwich. âI suppose you cooked for your siblings while you lived with your parents. Thatâs very admirable and sweet.â The brunette reassured with a smile and nodded at the question. Not only would it help her tummy to stop making weird noises but it would also give her time to get to know Sam better. She had a mental list about the best qualities her roommate had and so far the most prominent ones were his body and the fact that he could cook. He also seemed to have a very distinctive sense of humor. âThank you.â She replied as she waited for her half of the sandwich. âDo you like to workout daily?â She asked curiously. Of course she didnât want this to turn into an interrogatory but she had to break the ice before using her special tactics to know if Sam was suited for her bestie.

Sam didnât know his way around the kitchen, but one thing he did know how to make was an amazing sandwich. At the moment, there was no noise in the apartment, so the blond assumed he was alone. So, therefore, he had to fend for himself. He recently bought sourdough bread and a bunch of cold cuts. Sometimes it felt like besides rent, that one of the things he spent the most money on was food, especially due to how expensive everything could be once it all adds up.
After cutting a couple of thick slices, Sam laid down one slice and layered on salami, ham, prosciutto, gouda, and repeat. On top of that, he put on a layer of lettuce as well as a vinaigrette he bought with olive oil, garlic, a little white wine vinegar, and Italian seasonings. He put the other slice of bread on top. Putting the sandwich onto the plate, he couldnât help to get excited, for he was starving. Instead of eating breakfast, he slept in late and worked out, and now it was time for lunch.Â
Grabbing the sandwich and turning to put it onto the table, Sam suddenly jumped, but thank God, did not drop his plate. There right before his very eyes was Rachel. âJesus, Rachel,â he exclaimed, as he walked over to the table in the kitchen and put the plate down and grabbed a coke from the fridge. âI thought you were out with Kurt, or something.â He felt the need to explain why he was so caught off guard.
Rachel Berry was not the type who would stalk. That was totally not her style. She made âresearchâ as she liked to call it. Ever since she was a little girl, she made a pledge to get all the knowledge possible about her passions. By the time she was 6 years old, she knew all of Barbra Streisandâs accomplishments by heart. She learned the entire script to many of her movies letter by letter. The newest target of her mission, which was to find his best friend the perfect suitor, was obviously their handsome new roommate, Sam Evans.Â
After sharing some coffee with her bestie and having a little chat about the crazy circumstances they were involved in after the arrival of their newest friend, she decided to go back to the apartment to begin her scheming. In the distance a.k.a the kitchen she saw a shadow moving from one side to another. She decided to inspect fearing that someone got inside their house with malicious intentions. Instead she found Sam preparing a sandwich. A hushed sigh of relief came out of her mouth as she walked closer to the kitchen.Â
âSam!â She jumped when Sam became aware of her presence. âI donât actually believe in Jesus, Sam. Iâm Jewish. And yes, I was out with Kurt but needed some time to reflect on the achievements of the day. Also I need to take a bath.â The aroma of the food made her stomach make loud noises. Something about the italian seasonings and garlic made her very hungry. âMmm...that smells so good. Did you do cook that all by yourself?â She asked curiously, hoping that he would offer her a bite. âHow long have you been here?âÂ

âHe really does.â Kurt blushed at the thought of getting to be with someone like Sam. Â He never thought he could be so lucky as to possibly find someone like him that he could spend his life with. Â Or at least part of his life, depending on what happened. Â At the same time, looking back on past failed crushes, Kurt also knew he had to be careful with his feelings. Â There was no telling how Sam would respond to how he was around him. Â âHow would that happen? Â And maybe it does. Â I canât wait to find out.â He said softly.
âThank you, and the same goes for you. Â I hope you find someone too if this works out for me.â He squeezed her hand and smiled. Â It made Kurt feel good that she was willing to do this for him, and if he was honest, he would love to see her as happy as he might be in the future. Â There had to be someone out there who could tame Rachel Berry, if that was at all possible. Â âIâll make sure to give you a list of what I like in a man,â He said with a laugh, and secretly hoped she wouldnât have to do that. Â His heart rapidly beat in his chest when she mentioned love. Â âLetâs start with like at the moment,â He suggested with a smile. Â Sipping his coffee, Kurt let out a content sigh. Â âWhat do you say after this, we go rent a movie and force Sam into one of our movie nights?â If it meant spending more time with the blond, then Kurt was all for it.
âWith a little help from a friend. You know guys tend to be very oblivious to certain things and us girls have a way of slightly manipulating you, but promise youâll keep that secret from girl to gay best friend.â She giggled softly not trying to sound as threatening as she did. He could see in Kurtâs eyes that a crush was flourishing in his heart and she was going to use all her dirty tricks in order to get Kurt the info about his man. Of course the rest of the work laid on his shoulders.Â
Rachel bit her lip at the thought of finding someone for herself. Her last relationship ended in a bad note when she found out her ex-boyfriend was having sexual relations with her teacher, Cassandra July, He was also hiding the fact that he was some sort of sex worker. She wouldnât mind the last part if it wasnât because he lied to her numerous times about it. Her heart still needed healing and she figured out keeping her mind occupied on helping her friend would make the sad thoughts go away. The divorce of her parents also crushed her like nothing else but she tried to focus on her career instead of those feelings she kept to herself. âUhm, sure. Maybe we can have double dates and double weddings in the future.â She mentioned excitedly. âOooh, a list. I wonder if it will be some sort of magic recipe for a perfect man written by Kurt Hummel himself.â Kurt just had a way of cheering her up with all his sass but also with his adorableness. He was just the most important person in her world and she wouldnât trade him for anyone else. âI say we watch âRENTâ for the twelfth time and torture him with some Barbra movies too. Iâm feeling mischievous today and it is all thanks to you.â Rachel didnât notice the little rhyme she made because she was too busy standing up and holding to her bestieâs arm as they left the coffee shop. âJust donât make out in front of me or in our couch, babe. I like to enjoy my Barbs without any moaning in the background.â She joked. Operation: Sam Evans was officially a go.Â

âHe does seem a bit naive, but very sweet, doesnât he?â Sam was unlike any guy he had ever met before. Â He didnât mind being around Kurt despite the fact that he liked guys and he was so comfortable around them. Â These were the things that made Kurt wondered, but he tried to focus on just being a good roommate. Â âDonât worry, Rachel, I donât think heâs the type of person who would ever made you change. Â And he said he would get used to it, so you are good. Â No one puts Rachel Berry in a corner.â He said with a wide smile, hoping he had made her feel better.
He knew as soon as Rachel found out the story, she would get excited, and his intuition was solidified when she declared what she did next. Â Sighing softly, but still squeezing her hand, Kurt had to smile at the girl. Â She really wanted this to work out for him and to be honest, Kurt was hoping that they could find out what was up with Sam so he would know for sure if he should be getting his hopes up or if he should focus on finding a guy at NYADA. Â That Adam guy was pretty cute. Â âAre you sure? Â I donât want to put you out.â However, Kurt knew she would likely to do this whether he said yes or no. Â âThen again, the idea would be good, so that way I could move on if he really wasnât interested. Â Heâs a good roommate and I donât want to lose him just because of some silly crush.â He admitted, staring at Rachel with an almost defeated expression.
âAbsolutely adorable. He has that boy next door innocence that makes him so attractive. Also those pecs and abs. If things go according to plan, youâll be one lucky man.â She winked at him hoping he would understand what she was trying to imply. Besides he always looked comfortable around Kurt even more so than with her. She didnât judge him but things were just too clear for all of this to be a misunderstanding. âMaybe he just needs a little push to the right direction.â Rachel felt so much better once Kurt clarified the situation. He cared about her so much and she truly respected that.
âIâd do anything for my bestie.â She nodded with her head, trying to make Kurt understand she didnât mind getting her hands dirty to get all the details about his newest crush. Of course she also noticed a couple of NYADA students were interested in him because he had an amazing physique. âIf it doesnât work out, I could always introduce you to some of my classmates who find you quite attractive and easy on the eyes. Iâm sure Sam will continue to be our roommate either way. He is a charming boy and he can be quite helpful when he wants to.â She didnât want to lose Sam so fast especially cause she had never seen her best friend so happy and so comfortable while flirting. Rachel crossed her fingers hoping that their judgment was accurate. âYour crush isnât silly, you dummy. Love is an important matter.â
Coffee and Besties || Hummelberry Para
âHey!â Kurt responded with a laugh when Rachel lightly hit him. Â She really was the only one who could get away with doing something like that to him. Â They had such a close relationship that Kurt didnât mind it. Â âI didnât get this butt by sitting around, I worked hard.â he said, shaking his ass a little bit before laughing. Â âI miss you too.â He turned his fingers over so he could squeeze her hand. Â Rachel really was his other half and she always managed to give him advice he never knew he needed. Â
Listening to Rachel, Kurt thought about the moment he had with Sam.  How Sam had touched his knee, but he kept sending weird vibes.  âWell, he said he was oblivious to the fact that I was flirting with him.  He didnât seem to mind.  I guess he was thrown off by howâŠemphatic you were about giving us time to get to know one another.  Itâs nothing bad, you just have a huge personality and it takes some getting used to.â Kurt never wanted to offend his friend, although sometimes she did have a tendency to scare people.
The next thing Kurt had to do was tell her what happened next. Â âWell, after assuring me that I hadnât done anything to freak me out, he randomly asked if I had a boyfriend. Â I said no and then he asked if you had a boyfriend. Â I teased him about being interested in you and all he did was talk about not keeping me up and that he thought I would need my beauty sleep and he seemed to know it was important to me.â The entire conversation had thrown it off and he desperately wanted Rachelâs opinion on it. Â âWhat do you think all that could have been about?
Rachel listened carefully to Kurtâs anecdote. Just like she imagined Sam was either one of those typical closet cases that were so far in the closet they were in Narnia or a straight man with fluid sexuality. âIs he blind? That was some straightforward flirting. I mean unless he never got hit on before then he is probably more oblivious than an elementary school boy.â Of course Rachel was a bit offended that Sam could think of her as some kind of crazy lady but she also knew that she tended to be very intimidating. Her classmates would point that out all the time. It was the only way to grab peopleâs attention. She needed to shout or else no one would hear her. A diva never apologized for doing what she thought was right. âWell, he needs to get used to it cause Iâm not going to change for a man to respect me. Iâm Rachel Barbra Berry. Future broadway celebrity.â
She squeezed her best friendâs hand tight as excitement took control of her body. Her best friend was so close to finding a boyfriend if only that tennessean man would just stop playing dumb. âWhy would he ask that if he wasnât interested?â She remarked as she stared deeply into Kurtâs eyes. âHe wants you. Iâm just the perfect excuse whenever he wants to change the subject. Weâve only lived with him for a couple of days and I already got him figured out.â She was so proud of herself but she desperately needed to have a talk with Sam. He seemed like such a sweetheart but he was blond after all and clarifications needed to be made. âLet me chat with him. Iâll see if I can solve the mystery that is his sexuality.â
Coffee and Besties || Hummelberry Para
The one thing that Kurt often looked for was a friend he could talk to about what was going on in his life. Â Sure, he had Rachel when she was available, but he knew she had a tendency to focus on her own dreams and needs. Â Of course that was more than okay, but sometimes Kurt just needed someone to pay attention and make sure he was alright. Â But once Rachel said yes to his invite, Kurt felt good because it meant he would be able to have some time devoted to what was going on with himself.
Kurt really did enjoy having a new roommate in Sam. Â The other boy was funny and kind, although it was difficult to be around him sometimes since Kurt felt like he was developing a slight crush on Sam. Â And considering the confusing conversation they had that first night, Kurt had yet to be able to figure him out. Sam didnât really specify one way or another if he was gay or straight, which left Kurt wondering how he should approach things with Sam.
âI know what youâre saying, I just canât say no to the grande non-fat mocha.â He said before taking a sip and following her to the table. Â He chuckled and sat down, placing his bag in between his legs. Â âOf course I miss your presence when youâre too busy with other things,â He teased her lightly as he set his coffee down. Â âI never got a chance to talk to you about the conversation I had with Sam after dinner the first night he was here.â He said, thinking about the events of that night. Â âIs it possible to have boy problems when you donât even know if the other person would be interested in you?â
Rachel had a simple mindset, she was always first and everyone else was second or a hundred and twelve or whatever. She was an only child and her parents went through a divorce while she was having fun with Kurt in New York, so it was the least she could do to not feel completely miserable. Besides her talent was more than enough to grab the attention of her peers, something she was very fond of.Â
âOh, so that is your secret for having a perfect butt.â She said as she slapped Kurtâs butt slightly before they took a seat. âAnd I miss my partner in crime more than youâd ever imagine.â She admitted, smiling with great joy while she stroked his fingers softly. Kurt was her heart. The one person who brought her back to earth when she felt like she was above everyone else. He was truly the kindest and most inspiring person she ever met so she was more than excited to help him find his ideal man.
âYes, that is unquestionably possible. Especially when a boy keeps sending mix signals and you assume he is fascinated with your charm but he might actually just be friendly. Itâs a pretty common case, actually.â Sam was a completely closet case in Rachelâs eyes. Judging by the last interaction between Kurt and Sam that she witnessed with her own eyes, he bowed out when he saw the girl coming. âDid he tell you something that made you think otherwise? Maybe he is just timid and doesnât know how to approach you.â Of course that was just pure speculation, but they didnât know much about the blond other than the things he shared during the interview.
Coffee and Besties || Hummelberry Para
It was a few days after the first night with Sam in the apartment. Â Kurt was doing his best to be civil and not turn into a blubbering idiot whenever Sam was around. Â He also hadnât really talked to Rachel about everything that happened when Sam came to hit room to talk. Â But now, Kurt was just ready to get the words out and talk to his friend. Â Maybe Rachel would be able to help him out.
So one morning, Kurt talked to Rachel about getting some coffee after they were finished with class. Â She agreed so once they got through their lesson for the morning, they walked to the local Starbucks to order a couple coffees. Â He didnât completely know where to start, so he mainly focused on his coffee while Rachel ordered hers.
The first night with their new roommate had been magical and different for the best friends. A few days passed and there were no signs of the man being a serial killer or someone trying to steal their money. Rachel found Sam to be incredibly cute and funny, but she also noticed a different facet whenever he talked to his bestie, an awkward kinda flirty one. A plan emerged on her brain. She would do all that she could to help Kurt get together with Sam. Of course there were a few doubts about Samâs sexuality but it seemed like there was some kind of natural attraction between those two.Â
Of course she had plenty of other concerns in NYADA. Such as being the best student with the best grades on every class. She craved for the spotlight but she also didnât want to do it all on her own. Kurt was such a vital part of her life and she wanted to help him as much as possible, after she finished helping herself, of course.Â
When Kurt invited her to grab some coffee after class, she was more than happy to accept. Her sixth sense (not to be confused with the horror movie with the same name) told her that the boy was looking for advice and she was more than happy to give him some guidance. âThe caramel macchiato is to die for, babe. You should try it next time.â Rachel said as she took a sip of her coffee, pointing out at a free table near one of the huge windows. âSo...to what do I owe the pleasure?â She asked in a teasing tone before taking a seat. âAre you having âboy problemsâ or did you just missed my presence and wanted to make up for it?â
Homeward Bound // F2F
[Rachel kept babbling about Broadway but she was glad that Sam didnât whine and seemed to be genuinely interested in assisting to a play.] Then itâs settled. Weâre taking you see a musical soon. Youâre going to have so much fun. [Her disgusted expression on her face said it all when Kurt mentioned the disaster that was âSpiderman: TODDâ] Donât even mention that play. We shall forget that existed. Hopefully it wonât get a revival. [She looked at the boys and excused herself but before she left, she handed Sam her plate and headed to her chambers.] Iâm completely sorry that I cannot help you clean those dishes but I have a large moisturizing routine and if I donât start soon, I wonât be able to take my beauty sleep and you boys donât want to see me with huge bags under my eyes.
[Sam couldnât help to smirk as Rachel seemed to be in a hurry to leave the two of them to do the dishes. He grabbed a hold of Kurtâs plate as Kurt offered it to him.] Only if you wish to. I wouldnât want to interrupt your routine as well. [The blond went onto say, as he stacked the plates on top of another, before putting the silverware on top and began to head into the direction of the kitchen.] But if you do not want to donât fall asleep just yet, cause I⊠Kind of want to talk tonight. [The young man added before disappearing into the kitchen.]
I have a similar routine. [He bit his lip and nodded his head when Sam said he wanted to talk. Â Taking a deep breath, Kurt contemplated helping before deciding he needed to be alone to gather his words.] Â See you in a bit, Sam. [He said simply before heading off to his room.]
