His footsteps would make some noise, but not enough noise to alert the guards of the building of his presence. Leaving the group in a secure place, Rick chose to be  the one to save Beth from the people in this place. He could have imagined they were not pretending to  negotiate, so instead, he sneaked in and tried to find the room where Beth was. STEALTH was his weapon here. A noise of a gun would alert them quickly.

Rick watches as the woman kills the zombies that were approaching the prison so he decides to walk towards her and help her out. Grabbing one of the knives that were close to him, he kills a few that were approaching and then gently pushes her aside to close the gate. “Good skills out there. I’m sure there won’t be many approaching now.”
