So.....we back?
you’re so young and you have so much time. life is longer than you think, and there will be time for you to do everything. if you lost your youth to mental illness or abuse, your life isn’t over. you can do everything you missed out on, and more. if you’re losing your youth right now, there will be time for you to do the things you want to do. it’s gonna be okay, you still have time.
SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO STILL TRIES TO GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS AFTER DEPRESSION HIT THEM HARD. THERE ISN’T ENOUGH RECOGNITION FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT THEY’RE GOING TO LOSE INTEREST AND MOTIVATION AGAIN BUT PUSH THEMSELVES TO DO STUFF ANYWAYS. YOU ARE FIGHTING A DAILY BATTLE WITH YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND YOU’RE STILL COMING OUT ON TOP, YOU’RE ALL BRAVE AS FUCK

And you see I couldn't tell anybody in my right mind that I am fighting for equal rights because I don't *want* any. I'm fighting for human rights, because I don't want to be equal to the people that raped my ancestors, dead, kill out the Indians, dead, destroyed my dignity, and taken my name. - Fannie Lou Hamer, 1970

Having your parents buy food for you is absolutely a form of generational wealth in action. If that makes you uncomfortable or upset, consider that it’s merely a semantic point and not a moral one. Generational wealth is only a hot word because we’re in a state of intense immoral wealth inequality, but it isn’t inherently bad, nor is parents supporting their children bad. It’s great when a parent provides food/access to food for their kids, but also obviously lots of parents can’t do that. Generational wealth is anything that’s passed down from one generation to the other, and should be something we help everybody build
disposable income is not the same as generational wealth. wealth is accumulated. if money gets put directly into filling basic needs it is not wealth it’s just cash.
we already have words like class privilege and social support system words mean things wealth is NOT “has money left over after bills” that’s called disposable income. y’all will do anything to avoid using words correctly. generational wealth is NOT “when you have enough money to buy groceries for someone if they were to find themself in a situation where they can’t do that” i am GOING to go insane.
i also feel the need to state that poor people are, in my experience, significantly more likely to lend financial support to their family than the upper middle class. my family is upper middle class and my parents have hour long fights with each other about whether or not it's "manipulation" for my little brother to ask for them to send him some groceries (he is chronically homeless and currently in a rehab where they don't provide food). i regularly work with people who are actively being evicted, surviving on under 1k a month, who give their food stamps or disability payments to their children/cousins/neighbors/the elderly man in their apartment complex. they try to give me, their case worker who is working with them specifically because of their income level, food they bought with their paltry $200 a month of food stamps + holiday gifts.
this isn't to say that all poor people inherently have hearts of gold so much as it is to say that the upper middle class view money as something to be squirreled away, something that is theirs, that they earned fair and square by their own merit (thus giving it away is charity), while people who have lived through poverty are more likely to view money as tickets to essential resources that they would, of course, provide to anyone they care about if they could, often because they have depended on that belief in others in order to survive. when my clients come into money, it's as if their entire social circle has gained new resources, a ripple effect outward that i don't see in my family or communities.
Still a good precaution. And definitely necessary for everyone for when life has returned to normal in like three years just in case you meet the love of your life and they’re positive.
Couldn’t share this fast enough.
Rebloging this to add a little more info because it’s very important:
Antiretroviral therapy when used correctly can cause the user’s “viral load” (your viral load is how much of the virus is in your bloodstream), to drop because the medicine prevents HIV from creating copies of itself.
Regular blood tests are done to monitor your viral load, and after taking the medication long enough, it can drop so low that it becomes “durably undetectable”. This means that the HIV virus in you has become so miniscule that it can’t be detected, and by extension can’t be transmitted either. It’s important to note that in order to be considered durable undetectable, you MUST test as undetectable for at least 6 months after testing as undetectable for the first time.
Also very important, being durably undetectable does NOT mean that you’re cured or that the virus is gone, not by a longshot. The HIV virus is still very much there, but instead of being active, it’s gone dormant in a small number of cells called “viral reservoirs”. This why it’s EXTREMELY important that even after achieving durably undetectable status, you continue to take your Antiretroviral medications correctly. Because if you stop, the HIV virus will reemerge from the viral reservoirs and pick up right where it left off in creating copies of itself, and you will have to start all over again if you want to become durably undetectable again.
This is great advice for people struggling with or know someone who has HIV.
FAILURE TO DISCLOSE HIV+ STATUS TO A PARTNER PRIOR TO SEX IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE, SO WRITE THAT DOWN TOO.
If someone knows they’re positive and withholds that information from you, that violates your ability to give informed consent. This is comparable to “sex by deception” crimes, such as someone pretending to be your partner and slipping into bed in the middle of the night. WHEN INFORMED CONSENT IS IMPOSSIBLE, IT IS SEXUAL ASSAULT. IT IS A CRIME NATION-WIDE IN THE USA.
This is not a response to shame anyone with HIV, this is information on how to act responsibly AND NOT ACCIDENTALLY BECOME A RAPIST. YES, EVEN WITH PROTECTION. Yes, some states majorly suck and there is unfair prosecution against HIV+ individuals having sex even with informed consent, but without it, that’s assault.
TL;DR: do the stuff in the reblogs above, but if you wish to press charges, maybe also ask about a rape kit.
Thank you. Share the legal information please. Consider that not everyone can afford a hospital visit or can get to a hospital. This is absolutely a violation of consent and people should be aware of the legal steps necessary to protect themselves.
It is irresponsible to keep this information from someone.
