The Ones We Left Behind part 2
It had been two months since they’d talked about prom, and thankfully everyone had moved on, so Jack wouldn’t have to make an excuse to leave every time Perlah or Princess tried to asked him about his past, about Smurf or why did he acted so weird when they mentioned her, god even Javadi had asked him
Today’s shift had been a bitch and he was already beaten up because of the SWAT team, he was willing to head off to Robby already and go back home, take a hot shower, eat and sleep like he hasn’t in years
The day shift was already arriving, of course the nurses were there since 30 minutes before the start of the shift, he was leaned in the nurses’ station corner chatting whit Dana when Robby crossed the doors, how did he look so good at this early in the morning, he didn’t actually know when this feelings for his best friend started to develop, but now he was crushing on him like some teenager, of course he was acting normal about it, he didn’t want anyone in the ER to notice
“You’re drooling” Dana said looking at him with her eyebrows up and her glasses in the tip of her nose “what?” Wait since when did Dana know? Of course she did, but fuck he really thought he was hiding it well
“Cut the shit Abbot,—and go to your house already, you look tired” he knew this was her way of saying, ‘I know about it, we’re talking later’ so he just nodded and let a soft smile appear in his face, he was about to say something when the paramedics entered with a patient, Jack froze, shit this couldn’t be happening
He approached fast to the man in the stretcher, and all his doubts were confirmed, it was Pope, brown hair, hazel eyes, he looked just like the last time he saw him “now that’s uncanny” Santos said while eyeing between him and his brother, he let aout a sigh “Pope, always a nightmare to see you” he said in joke tone then continued speaking while they went to the trauma 1 “Thought you were in jail?”
“Fuck you” Pope let out almost like a whisper; Jack didn’t need to wait for the labs to know that Pope was there because of substance abuse, but that didn’t make sense, Pope didn’t use drugs
“Santos” he said already moving toward the stretcher “Call Robby, I need him to take over” he didn’t need to explain why, it was already obvious that Jack knew him, so she just obeyed
When Robby got to the room he was shocked at the sight of who was in front, it looked like he was about to say something, but Jack really didn’t wanted to have that conversation now “you got this, right brother?” And came out as fast as he could, and there was already another problem waiting for him, Deran and Craig were crossing the doors, of course they were in the ambulance with Pope; he felt a gaze and looked over to find Dana’s eyes, she looked disoriented by the fact that this was really happening, he swallowed forcing himself to look away
He approached to them and Craig let his phone go and they looked as shocked as him “shit is like seeing a ghost” Deran try to joke and Jack relaxed into it “hey guys, long time no see” he gave them a fast sideways hug and then feel a hand in his under back “well look at you, haven’t changed a bit” Dana confessed while looking at the two men in front of her, the ones that she once called brothers
“Shit D? Didn’t know you were here” Deran replied then went to give her a hug, Craig looked at her “you look beautiful as always”
“Jesus, you guys missed Dana more than me” Jack let out a chuckle, of course they did, she has always been so kind with them
He saw Robby came out of the trauma room and maintained his gaze to the four of them while giving some indications to Princess, then the sound of the doors opening distracted him of the conversation he was having with his brothers, he tensed by the sight of Smurf approaching them, Baz and J followed her
“Well fuck me, the rumors were true, —you really did become a Doctor” he felt all the eyes of the ER move to Smurf “you’re not going to say hello?” She continued; and it was scary all the power that she still had in him, he carefully approached her and bent down to kiss her in the cheek and hug her “hi Smurf” he said with a little tremble in his voice and then moved back to where he was standing before
“Evans, is nice to see you, —aren’t you tired of him?” Smurf joke while eyeing him and taking Dana into a hug “ohh, you have no idea” she answered then Smurf turned back to Jack “How’s Pope?” Funny, since when did she cared “He’s ok” he crossed his arms, Dana looked at him and then to Princess “Princess why don’t you take them to the room where he’ll be” she just Nodded and then Smurf and everyone followed her lead
Jack stopped J and Deran before they started to move “hey, since when does Julia let you stay with them?” Jack and Dana went every 6 months to visit Julia and J since they found again in the pitt, and she always said that she didn’t want anything from his brothers nor Smurf
Deran and J exchange glances “Man I’m sorry—“ it was everything he needed to figure out what happened “an overdose” Deran whispered so that only them could hear, he felt his heart racing and Dana take his hand
“We tried to tell you Uncle Jack, but my mom didn’t had your number in her phone” J replied and he seemed like it was nothing “it’s ok Kid, —you should go see Pope” he shook his head and then saw how they disappeared
Dana squeezed his hand and then let go, they moved towards the nurses station, suddenly the ER started to sound louder; he let out a sigh and looked into Dana’s eyes “I really thought that she was getting better, D” she shook her head, her eyes dropping to the floor “we did everything we could” she said like she was trying to convince herself too “Yeah, I just wish J had come to us instead of them” she smiled “Me too” voice softer than before
