Electronics Boutique Ad from 1998. I know this isn’t the Y2K aesthetic. I wanted to share it because I think this is a 1990’s goldmine
Even though the Volkswagen New Beetle wasn’t the most futuristic car design, I think if there was any car that defined 1997-2004 it was the Volkswagen New Beetle. It’s iconic design by J Mays and Freeman Thomas got such a positive public public reaction when it displayed as “concept one” at the North American International Auto Show in 1994, that Volkswagen decided to make a production model. From 1998 to 2010 more than 1 million Volkswagen New Beetles would be sold.
The Sony sports Walkman WM-FS1 was released in 1997. It was built to be water resistant and had a new contemporary look that many electronics were adopting in the late 1990’s.
Love inc was a Canadian Eurodance group from Ontario that was active from 1997 to 2003.
Orbitz was a failed non carbonated beverage from The Clearly Food & Beverage Company of Canada which also made Clearly Canadian. This beverage had edible gelatin jelly beads giving a distinct lava lamp look. Orbitz was discontinued in 1999 because of low demand.
The apple eMate 300 was released on March 7, 1997 at the affordable price of $799 dollars ($1662 dollars today). This laptop might be the earliest example of translucent tech.
Wired Magazine advertisement for sending ads through digital files from 1997.
Somehow the 3Dfx post got marked as mature content? Lol wut. 1990’s CG chrome Anubis is too sexy for Tumblr XD
1997 Ad campaign for computer hardware company 3Dfx interactive. The voodoo graphics chip was a significant development in video game graphics at the time. Here is the companies tech demo “Valley of Ra”
Also the archived 3Dfx website if you want to look at an interesting chapter in gaming history.

NBC’s The Site was one of the first televised programs that specifically focused on the growth of the World Wide Web. This ad was featured in Internet Underground May 1997

Wow an automated milestone :0 Thank you @y2kplaysthetics and everyone who got me to 5 reblogs! I will look for more examples of the Y2K aesthetic to post.
