Oh god, I wasn’t expecting everyone to be so concerned about this. I’m OK, I swear. I just liked one of my new games a little too much. To be honest, most of my friends are probably in the same exact position as me right now.

Hunter is definitely my best friend. We just clicked immediately and we like all the same things and I trust him way more than I trust most people and he’s also just The Best.

I think I’ve fallen down a gaming black hole. I’ve been coming home from school everyday and just sitting in front of a screen until I fall asleep, and I lost my entire weekend to it, too. Maybe I need to get out of the house a little bit more...

Yael records a video diary in an attempt to better understand her dyslexia.

“March first two thousand and sixteen. Eleven twenty three PM. Location: My bedroom.

I’m trying something new here. I’ve noticed that keeping a traditional journal of written thoughts isn’t exactly working for me. It’s hard to really value a journal if you can’t go back and reread what you wrote. So instead, I figured I’d try a video diary. Just me, myself, and also my webcam. I guess this is better than nothing. Anyway, tonight’s topic: The current source of my suffering.

I guess I’ll just jump right into it. No holding back, Yael, you can do this. Here we go: I can’t do the things I love. It just gets harder and harder, you know? Like comic books. I used to go to the comic shop twice a week after school let out and go home with a huge stack of new ones, but at some point, I just stopped bothering to because when I get home and open them up to read them I just… can’t. I can’t read them right. I felt like I was focusing too hard, and sometimes everything would be fine for a while, but then things start to get all hazy and I just have to stop because it’s too difficult.

I told my mom about it. She took me to the eye doctor, they ran some tests and gave me this crazy strong prescription for glasses. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely needed glasses, but they didn’t exactly help with everything that was wrong. Sure, things got less blurry, but I still couldn’t read my comics the right way. I told my mom about it and she brushed me off, saying how I just needed some time to get used to wearing my glasses. And trust me, I gave it time; I gave it so much time, but it didn’t help.

I just… even gaming is difficult. The resolution on the screens for my gaming rig… I struggle with that even. It’s like whenever there’s text on the screen, I can’t make it out properly. But it’s not just my hobbies, it’s even happening at school. And I’m smart. I know I’m smart. But I’m struggling all the time, and I try so hard to pretend that I’m not because my biggest fear is that my teachers or other students will think I’m stupid, and I really don’t need another reason for people to pick on me, you know? And I take extra long to finish reading and written assignments, and I don’t want my teachers to think I’m just being lazy, because I’m not. I might hate school sometimes, but I always get my work done. Always. I just mean that it’s not for a lack of trying. I just need extra time and I know that one day, a teacher is going to reject me or fail me for being lazy and… and I’m not. I know I’m not.

I guess I just want to know what’s happening to me. Is it this hard for everyone? Does everyone struggle to do the most basic tasks? And if they don’t, why do I? Was it all this years of gaming? Has staring at a screen super intently for so long destroyed my eyesight beyond repair? It sounds ridiculous, but what else could it be?

Anyway, I guess that’s it. Night One, complete. Talking to myself for fifteen minutes… it’s pretty strange. But if this is the only way I can record my thoughts and easily understand them later on… I guess it’s a necessary evil. So… goodnight? I guess? I’ll have to think of a better outro at some point."

It’s for Dark Souls 3. I have until the 24th to make my decision, but odds are I’m going to end up doing it. Like you said, if I enjoy the games enough, it’s worth it.

                                   opening the door hunter was more than happy to see his friend. eyeing the bag, hunter immediately remembered the struggle it must have been for her to carry it all the way to his house. “right.” he spoke with a little smile before taking the bag from her. “oh my─” he breathed out as he swung it over his shoulder. “that’s heavy, but then again what did i expect? you probably went all the way.” he teased and began walking. “okay, so overview; my parents are in the living room, but we don’t have to walk past there at all. miles and frankie probably won’t tell, but the chance miles will even get out of his room is almost slim to none.” he explained while walking through the halls on his toes. 

making it to his room without any trouble, hunter put down the bag on his bed and closed the door. “i think we’re gonna be safe in here, i already told my parents i was going to bed an hour ago so my hopes are high at least.” hunter knew his parents were very strict about things like that, knowing he also broke the trust they had in him. but with everything happening with miles, he just needed some time to do what he knew occupied his mind for some time at least. looking over at yael, he held his phone in his hand. “this is the only thing they left me with, and i wasn’t able to get anything else back before you got here.” he ahot her a little smile before continuing. “we also need to have some rules such as, no yelling of any kind which could give away you’re here. i think whispering will do, but not too loud either.” he teased and began unpacking her bag.

Yael laughed as Hunter grabbed her bag, as if he thought it would be lighter than it was. “It’s funny when you try to act all strong, you know,” she said, watching him struggle with it. She rolled her eyes at the boy. “Of course I went all the way. When do I ever not go all the way?” She listened as Hunter began to go over his situation with her, explaining to her how they needed to be extra careful to not make noise since his parents had no idea she was there. She nodded her head as he spoke, “You got it. It’ll be like we’re spies or something,” she said, beginning to make her way to his room as quietly as possible.

Once inside his room, she listened to Hunter go over even more rules about how not to get caught. “You never stop, do you?” she asked, shaking her head as she laughed. “Look, I get it. You messed up, your parents are mad at you, you snuck me in, and now we’ve got to be extra quiet. I promise you,” she continued, grabbing Hunter’s hands tightly in hers, whispering, “I’m not going to screw you over, you idiot.” She let go and walked over to where Hunter placed her bag and opened it up, slowly pulling everything out of it and placing it onto Hunter’s floor. “I don’t know what games you actually wanted to play, but I brought about ten different options, just in case."
