I’ll be 20 years old in January and I can’t help but reflect on this past year. What I would like to carry with me or leave in 2017.
Do NOT become the person that wrecked you!
Unlearn those abusive behaviors, as you can second handily abuse your next partner or current friendships.
Do not let others opinions of you change your goals, self esteem, or energy.
Understand SLOW and STEADY wins the race!
INFATUATION and LUST is NOT love
Don’t rely upon family, friends, or partners to help ‘repair’ mental health issues.
YOU COME FIRST (if you have kids; you come IMMEDIATELY after them)
Love yourself till it’s an overflow so when people take from you, there’s nothing to fill.
CONSENT CAN CHANGE DURING SEX. if you’re girl/man is showing signs of anything other than pleasure. STOP.
That house and car you want by 25 will be the same house and car at 55. Slow down and be patient.
Don’t tell someone you love them if you don’t.
Don’t propose or promise anything that has ANY possibility of changing or falling through.
Unless it’s 100% necessary, don’t make enemies out of someone you once were close to. Simply move on.
Leave the people YOU hurt ALONE. If you broke someone or abused them or anything; let them be. let them breathe and grow pass you. That’s all you can do if you truly want the best for them.
Check in on those who you think has it together, they often do not.
Your GPA is not who you are. Don’t live by it but don’t neglect either.
Okay, you’re not in college or trade school; you’re still good enough.
Living with your parents in your 20s is OKAY AND NORMAL.
Family can emotionally abuse you too; cutting them off is OKAY.
Don’t run to social media when there is an issue in your friendships/relationships; discuss it with that person or vent privately.
Always apologize sincerely, don’t do it because someone asks for it. they should NOT have to ask if it’s needed.
Don’t mask your pain or hurt to seem careless. IT HURT. don’t return to the ex before or fall back into old habits bc you refuse to accept that something new has hurt you.
Never. ever. in your life. BEG someone for ANYTHING. especially to stay. they need or wanna go; let’em.
Lastly, the glass is half FULL not half empty; they broke up with you, opportunity for self reflection and improvement. You lost that job, a better one is waiting! You failed a class, try again.
