Politics’ Dark Magic
No matter how much we orchestrate and facilitate the future to turn out the way we want it to be, there is a huge part of it, if not all, that goes against our will and estimations. Some might say it’s God’s will, others call it destiny, but I like to call it magic.
Some don’t believe in magic, at least one of that type, but I do. And I don’t blame those who don’t because many of us like to see as far ahead as possible, in order to prevent an accident from happening. But what if that accident will happen, even if it might lead to a lose of a life, if not more. Those who don’t believe will call this bad luck, a curse, or an evil eye, but again, that’s magic. Who said magic always rainbows and sunshine, there is a dark side to everything. Like any event, this sort of dark magic has side effects, not necessarily dark ones though, at least in the long run.
In today’s political and geographical situation, many look at the war in Syria as the world’s hardest and toughest events in history. Not to mention what they think of the flux of refugees fleeing to Europe. That is in the eyes of those who didn’t have to risk their lives and families to cross the sea in search for a safe haven. Some of whom had plans to send their kids to university in Damascus, other couples who planned to live together in their new home in Homs to start a family, and countless others who had dreams to build futures filled with goals to achieve. Had they have known this was going to happen to them today, what would they do?
Who knew this would have happened? Who knew that towns will be flattened and children would die in thousands?
Those who did manage to cross the sea or walk the desert and reach a safe zone, are now preparing for a new future to pave. A future so blurry and uncertain to many. A short term memory lose, forcing people to start new lives. One can only imagine the degree of difficulty such a task weighs. Leaving behind a country and an identity, in the worst conditions, and forcing yourself to accommodate with where the current takes you.
Sad story, I know. However, let’s take a this form another point of view. I would like to shed a light on the “positive” impact such a crisis has created. A humanitarian impact, I thought I would never see again. The solidarity and empathy with those arriving from war zones, is strong enough to get people thinking. Get governments and officials pressured to act, at least with some, drop of humanity. To some people it’s not enough, but this isn’t about who’s winning. It’s about morals and correct me if I am wrong but there are many, yes many, people that still have and are not willing to give up their morals for anything! This trait is valuable, especially when knowing its scarcity. So if you see it in those around you, consider yourself a lucky one who was effected by that magic.
The dark magic that spread through countries like Syria, Iraq, Ethiopia, and many others might remain dark to many, but it most certainly changed many people’s lives. Some never stepped out of their dark territory, today those same people have the opportunity to start new lives and hopefully better futures. Thanks to countries like Germany, Austrian, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and countless others who granted people the chance to start new lives, lives that might seem harder than those back home, but ones that are certainly safer, amongst people with morals and values.
May all lives of those who didn’t make it rest in peace and serenity. And may those who did make it ignite new lives filled with dignity, safety, and peace of mind. With Love, Yara
