Hey all! I’ve been going through my library to weed out books I don’t see myself reading anymore and just to declutter after having Stoic. First off, thank you to Tor for sending this my way. I’m sorry it took me so long to actually read this. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh man, this was fantastic. I found myself not wanting to put this book down. The plot line was great, I found myself easily sucked into the world and the writing was well done. I didn’t struggle with the tone at all. I loved the Slavic folklore influence. I’m definitely going to try to get to book two as soon as possible.

This was my second attempt at reading SGJ's books. I definitely found it easier to get into this one than with The Only Good Indians. The plot was interesting, and the setup of the main character telling his story was engaging. I just felt like the repetition of words was a bit much (which is a pet peeve of mine with any book), and the ending was somewhat disappointing. It seemed like there could have been more action at the end; it fell a bit flat for me. Overall, I was engaged with the story and plan to give this author another chance in the future.
