Ted quickened into the room. Being a Muggleborn student created a sort of bond between two people. Not only was Lily a Muggleborn, but she also had great taste in music. Bonus points, in Ted’s eyes. He headed in to the room. “Lily, I see you’re in a Beatles mood today.”
Lily’s smile broke out into a full on grin as she heard his voice, eyes sparkling as she whirled around to greet him. ‘Every day is a Beatles day, Ted.’ Lily informed him brightly, as though this tidbit of information were fact. ‘But not every day is a Hey Jude day, which makes today a good day.’ Her lips curved upwards, head bobbing to the tune. ‘You wanna listen to something else? I’ve got Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bee Gees, probably some Joni Mitchell.’ She’d enchanted the player to work without records last year, but she always did prefer her vinyls, the sound just couldn’t be replicated.
With the door cracked open slightly, a soft tune drifted into the empty corridor, the lulling voices of The Beatles adjoining the honeyed melody. Inside, Lily swayed softly to the music as she unrolled a piece of parchment, right hand reaching in her bag for the quill and ink she always kept nearby, a small, content smile on her lips. She’d slipped into the room a bit early today, setting up the record player at the head desk as she usually did. She didn’t mind, though, Ted wouldn’t be much longer and this was her favourite song. ‘Hey Jude, don’t make it bad,’ Lily’s soft voice joined the song as her smile widened, perfectly content to stay in this little classroom singing to The Beatles for as long as she could.

James looked up in surprise when he saw the pretty red head willingly sit down across from him. “ Well hi to you too Lilypad. How is the most amazing guy doing? I’m just fine thanks for asking.” James said a joking smile resting across his face. He could see lily was distracted if not annoyed. “I mean surely the chocolate frog cards they got couldn’t have been that bad.”
Look, it’s not like she chose to plop down next to James Potter of all people, alright? Not really. But Mary was busy, she hadn’t seen Gladys since breakfast, and Merlin knows what Marlene was doing. So really, he was more her fourth choice than her first; That was her story and she was sticking to it. Besides, despite James Potter being nothing short of ridiculous, he’d always had a knack for distracting her, though usually it led to her calling him a prat, but that was precisely the kind of distraction she was looking for. ‘I don’t know, I’ll let you know when I see him. How is Remus, by the way?’ Lily couldn’t help but let a small, challenging smile tug at her lips. Even more, she couldn’t help rolling her so hard they risked getting stuck permanently. ‘Merlin, you are the worst. Remind me why I talk to you again?’
‘This is getting ridiculous.’ Lily let out in a huff, hair slipping passed her shoulders as she sat down at the table, swinging her bag onto it with a thud. A quill slowly rolled out of it but she paid it no mind, simply flicking it back in as though it were routine. She eyed the table for a moment before looking up at the other across from her. ‘I just had to stop two third years from using Incendio on their cards. They were trying to set them on fire.’ Lily groaned, cradling her chin in her hand as her elbow leaned against the table.

important plot related info:
lily’s mum got sick over the summer, and she very nearly didn’t return to school because of this. had her letter written, her robes and badge packed, until her parents convinced her to stay.
the change in the family lead to more drastic ones, particularly between lily and her sister. petunia is convinced lily’s magic is to blame for their mother’s illness, and fights would happen almost daily. after awhile petunia refused to even speak to her sister, cutting all ties with her.
aside from several professors, only three people are aware of her mother growing ill. mary, marlene and gladys. all her roommates, and the only people she trusts not to treat her differently after finding out.
lily ended up with the lovers ( reversed ) card. it sort of terrifies her, honestly, how accurate it all sounds. separation, frustration, unreliability. she thinks it’s about petunia at first, except her sister has virtually abandoned her, so she sort of starts wondering if the betrayal in her fortune could possibly be someone else.
general info and headcanons:
as far as school stuff goes, she’s a prefect, tutors ( potions mainly ) the younger students when she’s not on prefect duties, and is in charms and slug clubs.
muggleborn and proud!! she’s honestly so, so proud of her heritage and the way she was raised and i honestly just feel bad for anyone that tries to shame her for it because she can go from 0 to 100 REAL QUICK.
she’s not afraid to speak her mind, whether that’s to some oblivious peer swearing by their pureblood elitism, to professors or anyone in a place of power, even to friends and family she cares dearly for. lily is not afraid to raise her voice, and she will fight to the ends of the earth for what she believes is just and fair.
though she’s an open-minded and caring individual, she can sometimes be a bit oblivious to others if she’s fighting for something she wholeheartedly believes in. she very much believes that people can change, but at times, just like any other person, she can get stuck on first impressions and relies on her gut instincts. occasionally this can lead to her being stubborn and obstinate in her perceptions of some individuals.
FEMINIST AF. lily is known to fight for the causes she believes in without fail, and there is none she believes in more than the fight for equality. both of the worlds she’s grown into — the wizarding world and the muggle world — still struggle with the concept of equality, and its something that has affected her from day one, and something she refuses to accept. she will fight for equality until her dying breath if she must, and she’ll do it with pride.
tragically, and quite ironically, she is actually allergic to lilies. she hadn’t always been, when she was a young girl the flower could be found littering the evans’ household, along with petunias and roses and daffodils and just about any other flower one could think of. lily had actually been quite fond of them. it was during lily’s first summer back from hogwarts when they found out. lily’s mother, a florist, had decorated the house in the flower to celebrate her first year, but only two days later was lily found sniffling in her bedroom, surrounded by a box of tissues with bleary green eyes.
lily loves music. she’s got records from the beatles, joni mitchell, the bee gees, queen, fleetwood mac, and just about everything in between. sometime during her fourth year she actually managed to magically enchant her record player to work at school, and ever since the girls’ dorm can usually be heard playing all different kinds of melodies, most often the beatles.

lily couldn’t help it, even with her lips pressed together to keep her expression ( neutral ) she s n o r t e d in response to his ridiculous glowering and denial. ‘ oh, you so are! that’s ADORABLE. ‘ her ‘neutral’ expression had turned into a full blown smirk now. ‘ oh, what? like i’m going to go around the great hall bragging about how i ( shagged ) a bloke with the nickname SNUFFLES? what even is that about, anyway? ‘ lily didn’t get many chances to hold one over sirius black’s head, so she was going to ( milk ) this for all it was worth.
