it's very frustrating seeing otherwise well-structured posts about media literacy and critical thinking bookended with statements about "nowadays", "nobody has literacy anymore", "this generation is so anti-intellectual", and the like, unquestioningly falling into better past fallacies.
Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.
I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.

We've reached the season of people randomly setting off fireworks for no reason, everybody cheer /s
When humans first made there way into the stars Black Americans were still fighting for their rights. Now in 2026 we have not only one, but two proud black men being sent into space explorations. This is black history happening in front of our eyes.
Meet NASA's Artemis III Crew
As of a few moments ago, NASA has officially announced the crew for the upcoming Artemis III mission. A low Earth orbit mission focused on testing the Orion capsule and lunar landers produced by industry partners Blue Origin and SpaceX, Artemis III will be a complex mission preparing us for a future lunar landing. This international crew comprises of three NASA astronauts and one European Space Agency astronaut.
Commander: Randy "Komrade" Bresnik
A two-time spaceflight veteran flying on both Shuttle and Soyuz, Bresnik first traveled to space aboard the STS-129 mission as a mission specialist. His second mission, beginning on Soyuz MS-05, included a nearly 140 day mission to the International Space Station. Serving as commander of the International Space Station for Expedition 53, Bresnik follows in the long line of astronauts who began their career as Navy test pilots as well as serving as a flight instructor.
Pilot: Luca Parmitano
An Italian astronaut and part of the European Space Agency astronaut corps, Parmitano has flown on two long-duration missions to the International Space Station. A veteran of six spacewalks, Parmitano has proven himself in difficult situations when the suit on his second spacewalk began filling with water, posing the danger of drowning in space. The first Italian to command the International Space Station, Parmitano is also notable for being the first person to DJ in space.
Mission Specialist: Frank Rubio
A record-breaking NASA astronaut, Rubio has flown the longest single spaceflight by an American astronaut at 371 days. A doctor of medicine, Rubio's stay on the International Space Station was prolonged due to damage to the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft. This lengthy stay allowed for more than a year of study of the impact of space flight on the human body.
Mission Specialist: Andre Douglas
The only rookie astronaut on the crew, Douglas is an engineer with a doctorate of systems engineering. A member of the US Coast Guard, Douglas has also studied robotics, planetary defense, and space exploration with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. Serving as a backup crew member on Artemis II provided Douglas with the unique experience of training for the Artemis II mission alongside the primary crew. Artemis III will be his first space flight.
okay its over now. what did we make of it
I'm extremely happy that African Americans are continuing to be represented in these missions. I was worried that Victor Glover would be a one off fluke. I also appreciate the inclusion of European efforts instead of staying exclusively American. I do understand the disappointment with it being an all male crew, but I feel like we are still making waves in who is expected to go on NASA missions and who isn't.

"Don't read the news, it just gives you a spirit of fear"
I would like to be informed about the things happening in my state, actually. I'd also like to be aware of the Symptoms of the outbreaks around me just in case.

He's such a little guy!
Does it actually take, like, an effort to be nice for some people? For me it's the opposite, it takes so much energy to start beef with people and it's exhausting. Every day I'm like why do people go out of their way to be shitty, doesn't that take so much energy, isn't is so much easier to be nice? It's literally so easy to live and let live, as long as I don't see anyone doing anything to harm anyone else than I would so much rather leave everyone alone. It never crossed my mind that for some people maybe it's actually easy to start conflict and hard not to, until just now. Am I stoopid.
it takes so much more effort and time to be mean to people. It's so much easier to just be chill.
