HEEJIN Algorithm (MV Ver.), 2023
How do you manage to stay true to yourself in an industry known for its pressures and expectations? Can you share a memorable moment from your idol journey that had a profound impact on you as a person, beyond your career? What's a typical day like for you when you're not performing or practicing?
How do you manage to stay true to yourself in an industry known for its pressures and expectations?
"i don't think it's that hard. at the end of the day, the only person who truly knows who i am is me. i just need to keep that engraved in my mind. who knows, maybe that'll become harder as my career goes on but right now, i'm not having a hard time staying true to myself."
Can you share a memorable moment from your idol journey that had a profound impact on you as a person, beyond your career?
"when i participated in all or nothing, i don't think i was expecting to debut. it's not that i wasn't confident, but i didn't put my life on the line like some of the other contestants. that might make me sound cocky, but it's true. making the debut line up sort of gave me that confidence boost i needed, sort of. it was a sign that i made the right choice when i decided to step foot in this industry and made me feel more confident about the choices i make in life."
What's a typical day like for you when you're not performing or practicing?
"i get up at noon on a good day. if i can't get up by that time, i'm probably in bed until like two or three and then i just spend it in bed unless someone calls me out. i'd like to get out more and maybe just watch people at a cafe, but i don't think culture creative's a very big fan of that so i just stay indoors. i'll meet a friend if they ask me to come out, but other than that i just like to spend that time relaxing and not worrying about what's next on my schedule."
you have to swap out one of the f/f members with another big 4 celebrity and it can't be yourself or switch one member for another. who are you choosing and why? 2. what is the biggest thing you've done that you don't want out in the public? how far would you go to keep it under wraps? 3. what is your life goal? has it changed over your life? how so?
you have to swap out one of the f/f members with another big 4 celebrity and it can't be yourself or switch one member for another. who are you choosing and why?
"well, i guess i'd switch out yeoreum and give her a solo career she has more control over. i'm sure she'll be a lot more successful that way. do i really have to put someone else in the group? i think we can survive as a trio."
what is the biggest thing you've done that you don't want out in the public? how far would you go to keep it under wraps?
"oh this is going to get me in so much trouble but i'm pretty sure i've posted a nasty comment or two about some celebrity. i can't even remember who it was, but i was like twelve, but i know that could kill my career, yikes. i guess i'll just have to go to the moon and back pretending it isn't me, huh?"
what is your life goal? has it changed over your life? how so?
"i don't believe in setting life goals. why set myself up for disappointment, right? there's absolutely nothing in the world that's certain, and i don't want to think so deeply. it's always better to just live in the moment. now, if you want a more public friendly answer, i guess it'd be to just have a successful career with nothing too life damaging to ruin it and then get married, have kids, yada yada."
if you could change one thing about future/femme, what would it be?
if you could change one thing about future/femme, what would it be?
"the name. like legit. obviously i can't come up with something cooler, but i'm sure culture creative has the money to hire someone else to do it."
what would your last meal ever be?
what would your last meal ever be?
"my mom's homecooked kimchi jjigae."
1. what's your biggest worry when it comes to your career? 2. what is something you think about when they need to find the strength to carry on? 3. do you try to stand out on your own, or do you try to make sure your whole group shines?
what's your biggest worry when it comes to your career?
"probably how long it'll last. while idol groups are lasting longer, that doesn't mean the interest towards future/femme will last that long. plus, i don't think it's that bad to leave when the interest is high. better than grabbing onto a sinking boat."
what is something you think about when you need to find the strength to carry on?
"my bank account gaining more money. i'm joking. kind of. i don't really like holding onto past moments and such, so i'm pretty good at carrying on. i guess i think about how much fun the next adventure or challenge is going to be?"
do you try to stand out on your own, or do you try to make sure your whole group shines?
"something i've learned from years as an idol fan is that most members shine within their groups anyway, so i'll go with the latter. some people need to get a reality check. your fans only love you because you're part of your group."
what is your least favorite future/femme song? how talented do you think you are on a scale from 1 to 10? what's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done on camera?
what is your least favorite future/femme song?
"like title song? i mean, we only have three but admittedly, i never liked tomboy. it ends too abruptly. sorry to my members who wrote it, but i'd switch out our debut track."
how talented do you think you are on a scale from 1 to 10?
"a solid 7.5 like i'm not the best singer, dancer, rapper or whatever in the group, but i'm pretty confident in putting on a performance. i pull off whatever position pretty well."
what's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done on camera?
"there are way too many embarrassing moments of me that have been aired. the number one that always makes me cringe, however, is when i pretty much barfed up a disgusting drink i had on a workdol episode. yuck."
yeoreum's writing, sure. her attention's on the screen in front of her, and the demo she'd been tasked to write lyrics for. ever so often, though, her eyes flicker to where yebin's perched on her studio's loveseat, like a babysitter making sure their kid isn't in mortal peril. she's done a fair job of entertaining herself so far, but she's been getting more and more restless the past few times yeoreum'd checked in on her, and she supposes the older's finally hit boiling point.
"you can't rush art." yeoreum wiggles her fingers in the air dramatically, the very picture of a feminist shakespeare. "how am i supposed to come up with the next lovey lovey lovey, dovey dovey dovey without the creative space to breathe, unni?" still, she pauses the music, a glance at the clock telling her just how long yebin's been forced to fend off boredom on her own.
"maaaaaybe. they said it might be one of the contenders for a b-side, and to see if i could change the lyrics to something more future/femme-y. would you believe how many demos i've made unromantic? in that vein, it's so crazy how unfeminist we get when we're in love."
when yeoreum finally replies to her, yebin can't help but roll her eyes. of course, everything her members write is indeed art, but she just doesn't understand why it has to be written now, and why it's taking forever. initially, she followed yeoreum to the studio because she thought she'd get whatever she was writing done in a flash. however, it's been hours, and yebin was starting to get bored of the studio air.
"hire a ghostwriter like i do. or just throw out an idea, and the company will put your name on the credits!" yebin's maybe contributed four or five words or maybe a single line, so she magically gets her name on the credits, but it's not enough to be called a songwriter. actually, she thinks it's be shameful to be called that when she was doing absolutely nothing.
letting out a sigh, she slouched in her seat once more before listening to what yeoreum had to say. "unromantic? really?" she frowned for a moment before returning to the conversation. "i don't understand their stubbornness for not letting us sing love songs though. like i get the whole image building, but i think it's useless. we'll be singing about love some day anyway."
celebrity travel guide audition tape. / word count: 468 words
an audition tape seemed silly when it was already pretty much confirmed that yebin would be part of the show. culture creative already knew how much she'd dislike filming this, so they gave her a nicely outlined itinerary to follow. looking at the piece of paper that was taped beneath the camcorder, she couldn't help but let out a scoff. it's like they thought of her as a baby or something. despite all that, however, they still allowed her to film it on her own at the dorms, so that's got to mean something. right?
clearing her throat, she turned the camera on and put on her future/femme leader smile, the one she'd always have during official speeches and such, before beginning to read off the format that's been given to her.
"hello, everyone!" she exclaimed as she waved towards the camera. "i'm future/femme's leader yebin, and i'm so excited to be greeting you all like this. this is my room, and i can't remember if this is my first time revealing it. there's not much here, actually. i like to live a minimalist lifestyle," she claimed before letting out a chuckle. more like she just cleaned out the area that'll be shown on camera.
"i have always loved traveling, but it's become harder and harder since my debut. i think the last overseas vacation i took was about four years ago? it was with my family, and we ended up going to canada, which was really nice! but i'd still love to travel some more." with that, she clapped her hands once before peeking at the script once more.
"i've always heard great things about new zealand and the nature there, so i'd love to be able to go there. but the one place i've always wanted to go to was spain! i've shared it during interviews as well, so i'm hoping the staff take my ideas into consideration." yebin winked towards the camera, and she could already see the editing that'll come out of this clip.
crossing her arms across her chest, she pursed her lips together before answering the next portion. "a bucket list item. i'm into adventures and thrilling things, so i'd love to do some extreme sports! not sure if culture creative will allow it but sky diving sounds like it'll be so much fun! i'd love to try it at least once before i die." she crossed her fingers and waved it toward the camera to show her excitement.
"it's just been so long since i've been able to travel even within korea, so i'd love to partake in this program and just explore the world. thank you!" as she said her last words, she waved toward the camera before stepping forward and turning it off.
well, that's over now.
with @onesummertime
"come on, i'm boooored."
it was mainly yebin's fault for deciding to join yeoreum when she was working on music but in her defense, she didn't think it would take this long. however, it seemed that her groupmate was really in the zone, and yebin was probably stuck here for a while.
of course, she could leave if she wanted to but, as she stated, she was bored and yeoreum was the perfect company for such a moment. "you've been writing lyrics for like an hour. i'm sure you've got a whole song written by now."
while yebin tried to be more of a songwriter for the group, she learned early on that she just wasn't talented in the aspect. she left that part up to her other members who were a lot more musically involved than she was. she'd just follow along with whatever ideas she had and play telephone if they needed her to relay something to the company.
"what are you writing anyway? something for the next album?"

It has been confirmed that Joo Yebin, the ex-VIV:ID member, has signed with Culture Creative and will be debuting in their upcoming girl group early next year. After fan-taken pictures of Yebin being spotted outside Culture Creative’s office were posted online earlier this month, there had been rumors that the ex-VIV:ID member was part of the company’s upcoming girl group lineup. What was just a rumor has just been confirmed by a representative at the company. “It is true that we have recruited Joo Yebin into the company, and that she will debut in our girl group set to debut next year. We saw the potential she had back on All or Nothing and as she promoted with the group and felt she would be a nice fit to the image we had in mind. Nothing about the group can be shared just yet, but we ask for your attention and support,” stated a Culture Creative representative earlier this morning through a phone call. Joo Yebin participated in the survival program All or Nothing and debuted in its final group, VIV:ID. The group disbanded in June earlier this year, and people have been curious to see what career choices the members would make afterward.
