Yeah dude, pretentious people are the worst. So hyped on this.

So I'm currently on a bus from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, so can't get the album streaming on Billboard's site, but I can't wait to check it out the first chance I get.

Some of my first understanding of what indie rock was came through bands that were influenced by Fugazi and Superchunk and bands that indie purists love. But because it became cool, because it blew up so big, and because it involved a bunch of attractive young men that a bunch of young girls started liking a lot, it became too safe for them. It had gone the other way. I remember going to those shows when I was that age, and it was mostly people my age who are now, literally, writing for Pitchfork. It was not a bunch of screaming young girls when I first went to go see the Get Up Kids and Saves the Day and bands like that. But again, thankfully, we arrived late.

Max Bemis in a Q&A with SPIN. 

It really bums me out that "young girls" are always associated in music with a band being either a) more focused on looks than songs, b) not cool or "pure" anymore or c) just not good. 

I mean, there are definitely those types of "screaming young girls" out there, but when you're a 15-year-old female at a show, the assumption is that you're there because you think the lead singer is hot and ohmigod do you think we can get a picture with him after the show? If you're a 15-year-old boy, the assumption is that you're super into the music at such a young age, how cool. 

As a girl who just likes music -- and there are plenty of us out there -- it's always disheartening to see this stereotype.

Check out this rare footage of an alternate video for “Josie” from blink-182! This video was supposed to be the official music video, but the band and the label didn’t like the way it turned out, scrapped it, and filmed the video for the “Josie” you know and love today.

I still say that this album, the Say Anything self-titled, is grossly unappreciated. It's no ...Is a Real Boy but it's got a handful of gems, including this one ("Mara and Me"). I'm so antsy to hear the upcoming release from Max Bemis & Co. Would love to hear more of Coby Linder singing, like the bit that's in this track. 

(Sometimes I like to pretend that In Defense of the Genre never happened... Or that they instead released a tasteful EP with the 4 or 5 good songs from that double-disc release. If only...)

The Starting Line - "Surprise, Surprise"

Whenever this comes up on shuffle, even if I'm angry with absolutely no one, I try to think of someone to be angry at so I can fully enjoy singing along. This was such a great high-school angst song.

Here's Chris Conley's refreshing take on a posi attitude, and how that's affected Saves the Day's new record ("'OK, so Chris is saying the first song on the record's gonna be nearly 11 minutes long... Um, what.' But to me, I'm like, I'm back to life.").

I'm going to find a way to be at ease with myself and the way the world is. I'm on a journey of coming back to life. So you lost your way. OK. That's OK. ... Take a breath to be comfortable with life as it is, without needing to change it, without having to pray for things to be different.

The band's new release, Daybreak -- the finale in a conceptual trilogy starting with 2006's Sound the Alarm -- drops tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to giving it a spin.
