Pssst! You can also find this post on my Dreamwidth journal!
I'm doing a fun personal challenge for myself the month of June.
The whole month, I'm only allowing myself to engage with Magical Girl stories and works. Whatever fannish works I make also have to be Magical Girl related. (MORE UNDER CUT)
Why am I doing this? I often struggle to pick up new things, especially stories, and Magical Girl works are no exception. Even if I'm really interested in them, it still proves a roadblock. All my life, I've enjoyed Magical Girl works from the outskirts of their fandoms, sort of wishing I could be engrossed in it as well. This challenge is to finally bite the bullet and jump head-first into Magical Girl stories!
Currently, I'm reading Sailor Moon (Naoko Takeuchi collection), so I know this is possible. I'm going to take things at my own pace, and see where I'm at by the end of the month.
So, what does this challenge actually entail? Like I said before, I'm only going to be engaging with Magical Girl stories the whole month! ...except, not really.
That's a tall order for anyone! So here's how it's gonna work:
*I have to be actively reading/watching a Magical Girl story every day, for the whole month. Even if it's just reading a chapter, it counts!
*I am limiting my YouTube watch time drastically. I'm still working out the kinks here, but the idea is if I'm bored? Magical Girl story, no YouTube! This rule does not apply to music.
*For fannish works, I'd like to say I can only make Magical Girl fanworks, but that's just cruel. I don't want to stifle my creativity in the name of a silly event only I am doing. So really what I'm doing is only allowing myself to post Magical Girl fanworks. On top of this, I do want to impose some sort of rule that forces me to make at least one fanwork, no matter how simple, for every story I read/watch. I miss making silly little works of fanart!! This would be a great opportunity!! Sometimes I need a little push to get back into my creative spirit :).
*These rules do not apply to general reading. I usually read manga alongside a "proper" book, anyway. And shows are an entirely different medium, so duh.
Anyway, a fun little challenge for next month. I'm really stoked for this, since there's a few fandom events occurring next month that'll fit nice and snug alongside this self-imposed challenge, including @polyamships' Polyam Shipping Day on June 14, @fourormore's 2026 Pride event, and finally @aggressivelyarospec's Aggressively Arospec Week! EDIT: I completely forgot about @nonacearo-week... oh boy! It's so soon! Shoot!!!!!!
(Though, of course, this month is more dedicated to reading/watching Magical Girl stories than it is creating fan content, especially in the shipping sphere. Despite this, I'd still like to participate in those events, and if I'm only posting Magical Girl fanworks, then... y'know...)
Dreamwidth is fixed and life is good 😎. Follow my adventures on there if you please!
There is no queue this month, only Magical Girl-induced hysteria
Posts will definitely be made once a week. I would like to do once-a-day check-ups, but that might not be feasible. I'll be keeping this post updated with the below:
CURRENT READ: Cardcaptor Sakura, Volume 1
CURRENT WATCH: Princess Tutu, Episode 6
I really need to make some progress on my anime bleh. I'm just more of a reader rather than a watcher 😔 And I would rather read the original source material, so a manga based off an anime is sort of a no-go. Princess Tutu I promise I will get to you soon...
Incredibly rough Sailor Moon from memory lol. Kinda sacred to draw any of the girls seriously since I know their outfits change a few times but the change is so subtle and also I breezed through the manga at the speed of light LMAO
I drew this scene of Venus death from season1 but with her in her Eternal uniform.
I always imagined the senshi all dying in the fight between Chaos and Cosmos, in the same way they died before (and this triggering Sailor Cosmos to go back in time as Chibi Chibi and to tried to change the timeline…)
——Please reblog if you like my art, it help artists. Do not repost or use. NSFW do not interract! Thanks!——
Between the tiny dots all over this image I had to paint over, the cutoff parts I needed to redraw/paint & removing the background around all of those damn wheel spokes.. I thought I would never finish this edit….. 😓
