Looking Ahead for 2017

I am in the midst of planning which states I will try to hit for 2017. I try to mix it up with some more close by states that I can knock out in a day trip, and some farther away ones to spread out the adventure. Here’s what’s on tap for 2017;

New States-

-March 5th- Little Rock Marathon- Little Rock, Arkansas

-May 13th- Delaware Half Marathon- Wilmington, Delaware

-August 5th-6th- Extraterrestrial Full Moon Midnight Half Marathon- Rachel, Nevada

-October 8th- Chicago Marathon- Chicago, Illinois

"On Not Ever Winning Marathons" --- I have been thinking very seriously this week about why I keep signing up for marathons. Ever since I entered and got into Chicago without a terrible amount of thought. I don't run them to win, I don't even run them to be competitive. I have felt embarrassed to tell people I'm "just trying to break 4:30" like it's somehow embarrassing to say that you trained for 3 months to get your feet to keep moving continuously for 4 hours and 29 minutes. In a way, I guess I'm "racing" myself. I'm racing to prove to myself that I can stay strong, both mentally and physically. I've never truly enjoyed anything that has ever come easy and marathons sure as freaking don't. But when I came in dead last at tempo on Thursday, I fought the embarrassment and took the high five instead because that Prospect Park hill is no joke amiright?? Then I turned around, took this picture, and somehow still hauled it to work. Less than a week until the marathon and everything is coming together. It’s pretty crazy to see things you and your coworkers have worked on all year, finally come to fruition. Finish signage is being built now in the park!
