Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:
Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need
The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to
You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking
No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)
Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.
Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!
Other d/Deaf people welcome to add.
This post brought to you by the fifth video tutorial I could not follow because the bad, auto-generated captions covered what I was trying to watch today.

My name is Qusai, I was born in Gaza and I am 16 years old. The war came and I was in the third preparation and I could not complete my studies. I had a house and a place to live in, but unfortunately it has been completely destroyed and our area is subjected to constant warnings and displacement of the population. I do not have any source of income. My father is unemployed after we had a bird shop where we rely on a source of income, but it is destroyed because of the war and we can hardly buy expensive food and because of famine and lack of money, we cannot manage ourselves with our simplest daily needs, so I hope you stand by my family and help make our lives better and make sure that no matter how much it is, no matter what it makes us happy and helps us make our lives better

Peter Gagnon questions whether his grandchildren should swim in the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., because of decades of chemical run-off from the airport. “That's what sort of got this started, thinking about grandkids, right? — going in that water and exposing them to harmful chemicals.” Gagnon and his neighbour, Rick Gartshore, are concerned about contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the city’s Pointe Des Chênes area.

The refusal by Canada’s High Court to hear a First Nation’s appeal against the decision in New Brunswick establishes a precedent that First Nations can seek compensation for loss of traditional lands, but they will not be able to assert ownership.
WOW. Absolutely fuck them.
The Crown-Indigenous Relations Department says the ruling will inform arguments in other cases, including Cowichan, adding that “private property rights are fundamental.”
What a cute thing to say from the people who stole that fucking land to call it 'private property' in the first fucking place.
Well-connected lobbyists and consultants have been given contracts to smooth the way.
Alberta taxpayers are already spending millions on consultants to smooth the way with Indigenous nations for a new pipeline through British Columbia to the Pacific coast, a proposal that so far has been met with strident opposition. The biggest spending is $3.4 million with Sedgwick Strategies, a Delta-based company whose president, Byng Giraud, is a veteran of developing major projects and a longtime organizer for provincial and federal conservatives and the BC Liberals. Most recently Giraud was instrumental to the development of the Woodfibre liquefied natural gas export facility currently under construction near Squamish. He was the company’s first employee in North America and moved from serving as the president of corporate affairs to becoming the country manager on the project.

Canada's biggest labour body agreed to cut ties with its Israeli counterpart
The largest labour organization in Canada has committed to cutting ties with Israel’s trade federation, the Histadrut. A resolution passed at the constitutional convention of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in Winnipeg earlier this month also calls on the Canadian government to support a two-way arms embargo, suspend the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement and condemn Israeli settlement expansion. Kevin MacKay, who attended the convention as a delegate from the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), told PressProgress that, when it came time for the vote, “We had a lot of the biggest labour leaders in the hall lining up at the mic to either speak or show support for the resolution.”

Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is declaring gender-based violence an epidemic.
Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government is declaring gender-based violence an epidemic. Lela Evans, minister of women and gender equality, called it a "monumental" day. "Today is an emotional day for me," said Evans at a press conference Wednesday afternoon in front of MHAs, police and women’s groups from across the province.
Evans announced a 12-member task force to deal with the problem, made up of government members and community advocates. The task force will produce a report in the fall, she said, and government will begin work before the task force finishes its work.

The number of Indigenous women in the province who have been subjected to forced sterilization and other forms of obstetric and gynecological violence is much higher than previously thought, according to a new report. On Tuesday, researchers at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscaminque (UQAT) released new findings – a follow-up to the first phase of their research published nearly four years ago. At that time, 35 women’s testimonies were collected related to incidents that took place between 1980 and 2019. Twenty-two stories involved cases of forced sterilization.
