I just recieved some DF-A 70-75cm jointed hands in White that I purchased second-hand, so I took a quick photo of them next to my Joy Doll Jacob to show my faceup artist. They aren't going to be his hands, but we were chatting about different white tones.

So this is DF-A "White" next to Joy Doll's "Old Volks White" equivalent.

I think they'd be an even better match for a more current Volks White, which is in line with the resin comparison photo their original owner showed me. Eventually, I'll be able to take a photo of them next to Peony White and Mia White: the intended hybrid that my eternally gracious artist will be blending into a unified look.

The incomparable Venitu by Fifth Motif. This was not a sculpt I ever expected to own, but I was surprised and delighted to learn that the artist still had a few heads in stock. I think it only took about eight days between me reaching out to purchase the head and its arrival at my door, and Mr Cho was incredibly prompt and helpful throughout our conversation.

My photos really don't do him justice; I love the structure of his face. This is the No.3 colour, which is close to Dollshe's Oriental resin. If all goes to plan, he'll be getting a Huajing body in their Soom Normal equivalent.

He'll have to wait until early 2027 for the body, but the intended resin match is close enough that he'll be shipped to my faceup artist this August with my Joy Doll heads. We've decided to hold back on Duke M until he can be sent with his own body in the new year, since he'll be slightly more challenging to blend.

After initially deciding that 1/4 BJDs would be the best fit for me, Duke M (or M the Duke) by Studio Naiko was one of the sculpts that really pushed me to reconsider the 75cm scale. I'm so glad to have found one second-hand, even if the Sunlight colour might be a bit of a tricky match. My faceup artist and I have been eyeing Impldoll's Peach Gold as a potential body colour…

I'm always in awe of the technical skill that went into this sculpt, and I don't just mean the balance between obvious anatomical knowledge and Naiko's artistic style. His asymmetrical features mean his expression changes slightly depending on the angle; it's why I couldn't help but include so many of them.

I personally consider the options to be a bit of a smirk (head on), a more genuine smile, and a melancholy look, but I do wonder if even more versatility could be possible with the right faceup and lighting.

It took me a long time to reach the point where I could start collecting BJDs, rather than just admiring them from afar, but the stars really aligned now that I can. I somehow managed to find both a Jose and Jacob head from Joy Doll on the secondhand market within the same month. Joy is one of my favourite artists, and these two are my favourites of her work, so I feel incredibly lucky.

The colours aren't what I'd have chosen, since SNG Milktea and Old Volks White equivalents are a bit of a challenge to match, but I also managed to pick up a pair of in-stock, half-soft bodies that Joy recently listed on Taobao. The white one might not be a perfect match, but my faceup artist is confident she can blend the two.

I'm already very in love with the characters I've made for them and can't wait to see the finished looks. Soon they'll be shipped off to my faceup artist, along with two other heads and (should the timing allow) the resin pieces of their half-soft bodies.
