Wow, the two directors in the two cities sure are different, huh? Roget probably wouldn't last a week, scratch that, he wouldn't last eleven minutes in the crazy town that is Neo Domino. They attack you with real weapons there! Also he's scrawny as a broomstick and gets pushed arround by fouteen year olds.

ygo5dsmonth/Week 2024 Day 4 - iDuel

Since the prompt is music, I thought we could talk about the visuals in the 5D's openings maybe? So here are my favorite parts, and some things I noticed in general

Opening 1 Kizuna

The beginning with the Signers, Godwin and the dragon marks looks super cool. Too bad I don't like the music that goes along with it, haha. A little Jack and Yusei heavy, but it's alright, at least the side characters get time to shine too

Opening 2 Last Train

It's soooo good, a like practically everything here. The new characters and monsters get presented well, and everyone has some solid screen presence. The coolest parts are the view of the Dark Signers in their lair, Kiryu appearing on his D-Wheel, and the Signers at the end (the Dark Signers look cooler though, sorry fellas)

Only thing that bothers me is how Godwin shows up so little in the opening, he's (barely) more in the ending ffs, and he's the final villain of this arc. I know that was a twisted plot twist and I'm the only one who cares, but still

Opening 3 Freedom

Phew, the opening wastes no time to tell you that this is the Yusei/Jack/Crow show now, Rua, Ruka and Aki get into the back right now! And if you're focusing so heavily on the boys at least let them do something other than standing/driving casually, you're not really hyping me up like this OP. Fun fact: this was the first japanese opeining the german dub decided to leave in, after they started dubbing the 4kids version and did their own synchro

Why should I care about the stupid WRGP (You're a grand prick!) again? Sigh, tournaments for the sole sake of getting better at something work better before you save the world from certain doom (but that's a writing problem not an opening problem)

The Majestic/Savior dragons look cool at least, and I like that this sequence kinda mirrors the dragons from Last Train, just in their evolved forms

Opening 4 Believe in Nexus

The villains get to look cool for a hot minute, damn. Although Lucciano is the only one with rollerblades, so him sliding and everything makes sense. The other two...are robots and ignore how uncomfortable this should be

Sherry too? They must feel really sorry for having to remove her from the plot

Ally of Justice monsters, so scary! Isn't that the archetype that only ever had one good monster, a generic synchro? But of course everyone has to be dumbass in this arc and plays light monsters, which Ally of Justice is strong against

Opening 5 Road to Tomorrow-Going My Way!!

This is intense as you can see on the two exclamation marks in the title. At long last the other Signers get to be something other than background filler. Also it's so fuckin funny how Yusei and Crow roll out all their Synchros, even those they don't use anymore

I refuse to play anything besides Red Demon's Dragon!!!

YGO world building because I have some things to explain that I put off!!

These are things that I may have neglected on the YGO fandom but in my admittedly limited defense, it's not like I don't have plans for it. I just focused on other things more. So here I am now to drop some world building ✨. Keep in mind, I am still working out some things.

Dueling is a pretty high paying career but it's treated more as a sport in general.

Also I always wanted to explain this because it lives my mind rent free. Duel spirits are kinda like what happens when you mix the sea of subconscious from Persona with the Fae folk and add celestial spirit into the mix. Kinda still working on it.

The cities the shows are based in are a mixture between Japan and Western cities. I know it's a common headcanon but bare with me here.

Duel Academy has a general course for those who want a career outside of dueling. General course students have an arm band on their left shoulder.

Turbo duels are seen as the most exciting though they lose that title to action duels later on. It's because of the fast pace and high chances of crashes for the blood hungry.

I'm getting rid of the multiple dimensions here. Also as you can see fudging ages around to a degree as you can see in a lot of my posts.

Physics is not completely related to magic but does have a connection to it. In the end, it depends on the person.

Ok hot take -ish

I swear, am I the only one who wishes Mikage was more of worse -ish and cynical person. And this isn't me hating her though I'm still concerned about her crush on a teenager, maybe (?).

( Look the age beside the main characters are vague and no one knows her actual age. )

Anyways back on track, I would kinda love her being this overworked woman who's this close to snapping if they get insulted while wondering what is she doing with her life because by all accounts, she should have a lot more hidden rage.

She works for Rex and Lazar, that can't be easy. Plus what happened later in the series, she must have had some sort of "WTF" moment when hearing about what's happening.

Give me a Mikage who's in front seems like a doormat that in private, is wondering if she can strangle someone for dismissing the fact that she's a actually member of Security NOT A DAMN secretary (though thanks to Rex, it seems like that's all she is now.) Have her try to hold her tongue only for it to come out when she is alone. Have her be Jack's older sister figure.

Allow her to be absolutely done with everything.

Day 5:

I think my favorite 5Ds merch aside from the DVDs is the game Over the Nexus. Unlike the other 5Ds games for DS, Stardust Accelerator and Reverse of Arcadia, Over the Nexus isn’t too short. It has a very complex plot, exploring Crash Town in more depth (albeit in a separate verse from the anime) and also going on into the WRGP. Curiously, like the English dub, it has the problem wrap up there instead of continuing into the Ark Cradle. Very interestingly, however, it has Primo and company decide they were wrong and they stay separate instead of combining into Aporia.

Radley in this game comes across as much more of a stereotypical, tough biker punk. However, he retains his philosophical side from the anime and the game still hints that he is a better person than Malcolm, who declares open war on Radley and clearly intends to kill him. In this version, it is never said that the miners are being tortured by either side. Also, Jordan/Sergio survives falling, which I firmly cling to as happening in the anime as well. It’s too depressing otherwise, after the kids struggled so hard to save him.

Also, mention must be made of Misaki, who is a female counterpart to Antinomy. Very curious indeed. And unlike Antinomy, her real purpose is never dealt with in this game. No one except the player learns of her secret identity as a mentor to the OC lead, and nothing is said about why she's there or where she comes from, or if she and Antinomy know each other.

After playing through the whole game, I mostly just hang around Radley in the post-game and repeatedly duel him. Sometimes I duel Scotch and Kalin as well.

Eric is the better shooter of the two. Alici is the better fighter.

Alici entered the Fortune Cup before. She came in 4th place .

Both of them think Neo Domino is corrupt .

When both siblings are pissed at someone, chances are that person should run.

Here me out but Jack and Alici as foils

Both of them are duelists with a caring adoptive parent (Martha for Jack/Libby for Alici) who while still care about their siblings, have been known to act against them for their own interest. They also have flaws *they even share one* that a lot of people tend to see first before the good parts. They also have a royal nickname (King of Duels, Queen of fairies) that they hold a lot of stock in. They also have a bit of a boastful side. Plus they are also both genuinely caring towards their loved ones and will go to the ends of the earth for them.

So you would think that they would get along pretty well at the start, right? Wrong! They do not at all. Because their most prominent flaws and choices make them hate each other. Jack hates Alici's admittedly deceitful nature and her ability to lie as easily as she breaths. Meanwhile Alici's Jack rudeness and cocky additude. Added to both their worse actions, they see someone they can't stand to be around. They can put it aside for when they need to but otherwise, except them to trade barbs at each other when they can.

Day 7- You brought the OCs, right?

I made an OC to ship with Yusei. Her name is Ayami Satou. I made the picture on neka.cc. I'm horrendous at drawing and I haven't had any commissions done. I created her in June after finishing the show for the first time, so I don't have everything figured out yet. Ayami is from Satellite. She's got a marker on her face, an arrow around her right eye (I stole that from that guy whose name I can't remember because I love bow and arrows), and a duel runner. I like the thought of it being silver or black and white, but I should do more with it. She's confident, outgoing, brave, and silly. She loves joking around. She loves wearing black and white, and clowns. She's rebellious and stubborn. She's timid with Yusei, and others tease her about it. She likes Jack platonically, but at the same time, she doesn't. She finds his arrogance and pride annoying, and how people call him King. She's intimidated by him too. She gets along great with Crow, partially because they're similar in their silliness. He's her best friend. Akiza is my second favorite from 5Ds and I like to think her and Yusei got together at some point, but Ayami replaced her in my AU because she liked Yusei and was jealous of others and it could cross into Yandere territory and I don't feel like including the drama between her and Ayami. But it's also fun to think of an alternate version where she's around and they're jealous of each other and bitter, but they become friends. Ayami would be willing to be friends from the start, but would back away from the idea when she realized Akiza disliked her. I feel like Akiza wouldn't be able to get past the jealousy and rage if Yusei was with someone else and she definitely wouldn't want to be friends with them, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, I like to imagine that her and Ayami could work things out and be close. I got the idea for Ayami because I thought it would be fun to pair Yusei with his opposite. He's serious and sometimes stiff, so imagine her being silly and sometimes it's too much so he's just like *sigh* 😑 It's just funny to me! I need to make OCs for her family, at least one female friend, and maybe a rival and some bad guys for drama.

Day 6- Awesomeness Across Infinite Earths

Here are some of my AU ideas which are technically just crossovers. I only wrote about Yusei here because he's my favorite and the post is already long and would be a book if I included everyone else I like.

Avatar the Last Airbender:

I can see Yusei being a water or air bender. He has the right personality for both. Air would work for his calmness, intelligence, and good heart. Water would work because it is gentle and capable of healing, but it can also be used offensively, especially in the form of ice. This goes with his goodness and wanting to help and protect others, and how he is also strong and willing to fight when needed. Like Katara, I think he would reject blood-bending and refuse to do it.

Bakugan:

I see Yusei as a Ventus (wind) user, because it goes with his calmness and wanting a better future.

Harry Potter:

Yusei could fit any house! He's least compatible with Slytherin though. That house had originally focused on bloodlines, blood status, and money. They preferred purebloods from rich, successful families. Yusei is clever, ambitious, resourceful, determined, and cunning, but he would be disgusted by that mindset and would want nothing to do with it. He doesn't desire power like they do, either. I like the idea of his Mom being a muggle, Dad a pureblood, and Yusei grew up in the muggle world as an orphan. He fits Ravenclaw for intelligence, creativity, and out of the box thinking. He fits Gryffindor for bravery, chivalry, and heroism. He fits Hufflepuff for kindness, patience, hard work, tolerance, honesty. He could just as easily be Gryffindor or Hufflepuff and might even cause a hatstall while being sorted. Heroes seem to always get Gryffindor, which makes sense, but I like to think of him as a Hufflepuff.

Inuyasha:

He would be like Kagome and Inuyasha combined. Sharing her pure heart and nurturing, and his bravery and strength. Like her, he would see humans, half demons, and demons as equals and would want to fight discrimination and cruelty and get others to see everyone as equals too, and get along with each other. Like Inuyasha, he would be the leader of his group and the main one who always risked himself to keep everyone safe. An interesting idea is that he's human starts traveling with a half demon or demon Akiza. Akiza starts crushing on him because he wasn't afraid of her and didn't hate her or try to use her for her powers. Maybe she could start off bitter towards humans, or if she's a half demon, humans and demons. She could be a bit of a villain at first. But then she meets Yusei and her life changes for the better, bringing out her real self, caring and kind.

Pokémon:

I picked ones I associate with Yusei. Luxray is him as a Pokémon. xD The colors, the intimidating look, the coolness. Maushold goes with how he used cards others considered weak and he said there are no useless cards. Maushold is small and cute, like Sonic Chick and Quilbolt Hedgehog. It looks like it would be weak, or "useless" to battle with. It's surprisingly strong. This goes with how Satellite are discriminated against, looked down on, and underestimated. Yusei is similar to Maushold in how many would assume he was lowly, but they would be proven wrong. I chose Maushold specifically, because there are four of them. That goes with Yusei cherishing bonds and friendships, gathering strength from others, and understanding the importance of people relying on and supporting each other, being together. Togekiss is a compassionate Pokémon who offers good luck and blessings to kind people. It can tell when someone's a good person. Arcanine is brave, protective, and strong. Same with Gallade. Gallade can sense when others need help, and it does what it can. I picked Cyclizar because of Yusei's love of his duel runner.

Sailor Moon:

He would be Sailor Mercury! She's sweet, mature, and smart. She's motivated, dedicated, and sometimes focuses too much on studying. All the same for Yusei. Except replace studying with riding his duel runner or working on it. Ami was determined to be a Doctor like her Mom, and Yusei became a Scientist like his Dad. Ami was shy, withdrawn, even a bit boring. Not the same, but Yusei is reserved and can be a bit stiff, seeming like he'd be boring in some aspects. Ami had a complicated way when it came to romance, and seemed like she would put her goals before it. Same with Yusei. Ami uses water and ice, and has the ability to confuse her opponents with illusions. I like to associate water and ice with Yusei.

Day 3- The Balance

My favorite villain is Z-One. I like how he was intelligent and driven, but also unhinged. He copied Yusei's identity and appearance to try to accomplish his goal of getting people to be better and fixing the present and future. It's admirable. It's hard to describe how twisted and creepy that is. This was another one of the many things in the series that could've been explored a lot more and leaves room for fanfictions and AUs. An idea with plenty of possibilities.

Yusei is my favorite because he has the best personality. He's a good person, too good of one sometimes, and also smart, ambitious, and tough. His compassion and calmness are my favorite things. He's always trying to help and understand people, even when he shouldn't.

Day 5: Bury me With My… I have the entire Blackwing set inside the Crow themed duelist portfolio. If money wasn’t an issue I wold commission a Crow, Gale, Blizzard plushies.

Day 6: Awesomeness Across Infinite Earths… I love mermaids AU. I pretty much like all kinds of AUs. I love it when people make the monster cards characters in AU.

Day 7: You Brought the OCs right…? I do have an OC. Her name is Guu and she is the adoptive daughter of team Ragnarok. She uses a fanmade deck I made based on constellations.

Day 8: the Neverending Story… Crow comes back to the city and takes over the orphanage from Martha. Also Harald can see the future (but only for fun stuff like knowing lottery numbers).

When it comes to clothes the Dark Signer's robes are my favorites. I love the matching cloaks (with the different outfits for each one underneath) and that the colors are aligning with their Earthbound Gods. They even gave out cloaks to their shadow drones, they're very committed to that style

And I could never leave out Godwin and his stupid, fancy bird shirt

As for more normal, everyday clothes, I think some outfits from the games look really good, like Misaki's here, it got just the right amount of bling
