I made some weird little watercolor and gouache paintings for a sci-fi-themed exhibition. I was miles out of my comfort zone and some of my paintings were Quite Bad but I had fun

you have to be able to defend people who are receiving unjust treatment even if they annoy you even if you personally find them extremely annoying you still have to be able to stand up and say "well thats fucked up"
the moral willpower required for "i hate their guts but my personal ethical standard is no xyz and i cannot set the precedent of making an exception for them" is imennse but important work
reblogging this again to add that the opposite is also true. You shouldn't be willing to back up the unethical actions of people that you do like. Most ethical dilemmas aren't one-on-one, so this is less common, but when your dear friend says, "[fucked up thing], am I right?" you should be able and willing to say, "I don't think that's right, no."
^^^The hardest test of your principles is standing up FOR an enemy and standing up TO a friend.

Narrowing down my favourite Australian songs to just 10 has been a STRUGGLE let me tell you. It does mean I now have a banger playlist of 100 Australian songs now though. I think I've worked out my top 10 (see above) but I'm gonna sit on it for a couple of days before I vote.
how are we all doing fam? this game is hardddd
Some of y’all don’t know about the joyous Australian state of Tasmania that for 10 days every year turns all their lights red, hangs crosses upside down, and burns their worst fears in the name of “art”

Three-knife hairpin 三刀簪 (one for the country, one for the family, and one for oneself) was a popular headpiece among women in the city of Fuzhou, Fujian province.
Also known as "Three Hairpins” it consists of three small swords worn like hairpins, mostly made out of silver or white copper, and engraved with patterns.
There are various theories about the origin of the Three-Knife hairpin. The most popular one claims that it evolved from small sharp weapons worn by women during the Ming Dynasty in order to defend themselves against Japanese pirates raiding China’s coastline, by killing their enemies, or even committing suicide.
In June 2024, the three knives were selected as an intangible cultural heritage of Fuzhou, and more people became aware of this traditional clothing culture.
"you are gay and chinese" continues to be such a profound and emotionally impactful work to me which is rly funny
