The specific service and product design for Chinese international postgraduate student in Glasgow school of Art.

The project will provide a service, or more like a “pack”. It’s like when the student got the conditional offer, they have to come to Glasgow early than other students because they need to pass the language test. This “pack” will lead them to understand Scottish culture, how to live in Glasgow like local people, introduce some local event and festival, and most important, let them communicate with each other.

Ballindalloch Distillery Field Research

The Ballindalloch distillery is a single estate distillery, which is the every single step from the ingredient to distil copper, from fermentation process to oak barrel, they produce for their own. From the very outset, the production of their whisky was always destined to be “hands on”. With a clear commitment to tradition, the Single Estate nature of their process allows them to control every aspect of whisky making. From the barley they grow at their Home Farm to draff fed back to cattle across the Estate, they craft their whisky in a way that generations past would have recognised.

Ballindalloch (winterschool part)

Ballindalloch Castle has been the home of the Macpherson-Grants since the Sixteenth Century and today is one of the finest surviving examples of a classic Scottish baronial castle.

15th and 16th Centuries Situated on the banks of the River Avon, a short distance from its junction with the River Spey, Ballindalloch Castle has been the home of the Macpherson-Grant family since it was finished in 1546.

17th Century For a century the positioning of the Castle on the flat meadows as a result of the spectral warning served the Grants well. Then the internecine feuding of the English and Scottish Civil Wars intervened in the history of the Castle.

19th Century The second – and final – occasion on which the ramparts of Ballindalloch Castle were to be breached was not by the forces of Man but by the forces of Nature.

20th Century Some essential modernisation took place in the 1960s as Sir Ewan Macpherson-Grant added bathrooms and tamed somewhat the excess of the Victorian additions.

21st Century To the 21st Century eye, Mackenzie’s subtle melding of the original ‘Z’ plan, turreted fortress with modern wings, adorned with large dormer windows and gabled roofs, has the uncanny look of a ‘fairy-tale’ castle.

Innovation From Tradition Project

This brief was separate by two part. The first two weeks during the Winter School in Highland Island, and the next after we came back to Glasgow School of Art.

This programme was informed by a larger strand of work being undertaken by the Institute of Design Innovation, titled " INNOVATION from TRADITION", which explores the challenging and sometimes tense relationship between that which is traditional and the innovative.

Winter School was about forming an understand of the relationship between tradition, innovation, lived experience and preferable futures, which was specifically located in a commercial and technological context. The student were asked to formulate Research Question to show an understanding of this context, and to identify opportunities for further research for this stage.

After the Winter School , the student was continue to work in the Winter School. In this stage, student was collectively formulate a group brief which takes place within a specific historical, social/culture and geographical context in Scotland, and reflected the student specialism.

Enhancing Public Transport Experience for SPT’s Users

In this project , I will wirk in groups with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport(SPT) as the live client. SPT are currently seeking new ways to enhance the service provision for their users as part of a strategic development plan for the region. Their organisation vision for the future is to create” A WORLD-CLASS SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT SYSTEM THAT ACTS AS A CATALYST FOR AN IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL.” This organisational vision aligns with The Scottish Government’s strategic objectives listed below:

Wealthier & Fairer, Healthier, Safer & Stronger, Smarter, Greener

There are also three partnership goals shared by SPT and the Scottsh Government, Namely:

· Develop the economy: through improving connectivity for business and freight, making transport more effective and efficient, providing access to employment, education, shopping and leisure by improving transport integration

· Promote social inclusion and equality: by providing a transport system that is safe, accessible, and affordable to all sections of the community.

· Improve health and protect the environment: by minimising emissions and consumption of resources and energy, by promotion active travel, quality public transport and modal shift.
