🎵 Puppy got back
Surgery shave appreciation!
question 2 my followers: what’s the most obscure piece of media you’ve ever developed a fixation with? not obscure as in “at one point had a reasonably thriving fandom that eventually faded” but something you feel you were almost entirely alone in your appreciation for
Pups, 1999. I used to have insomnia when I was younger. Late one night I watched this movie. For YEARS I thought it was a dream bc noone knew what I was talking about!!!
Yesterday I was playing with a bulldog, including having my hands in his mouth, then went and ate a chicken nugget, THEN washed my hands......
Hi my name is Gillian I would like 2 know of vet tech school was difficult and how do u know if your right for the job
It’s never easy trying to find a career for yourself. Being a vet tech is a different kind of profession. It is very emotionally and physically taxing. As much as you get to play with puppies and kittens you are also nursing end of life patients and easing them over the rainbow bridge. The hardest thing it to watch a favorite patient die, then have to put on a smiling face and see a happy family with a new puppy.
I always said I wanted to go into vet med to avoid people - this could not be farther from the truth - pets cannot speak for themselves and we require a lot of interaction with their owners to discuss what is going on. Some are wonderful - we had clients bring us flowers to thank us, food to feed us and those that are a pleasure to work with. We also get clients that scream at us and curse at us because we cannot see there pet that has been sick for days but they walk in for an appointment.
You put your heart and soul into your work and honestly, you do not get much in return. Finding the right clinic to work in where you are compensated fairly and appreciated as you should be is difficult. Even working in what is called a unicorn clinic, it is not easy to live off the wages of being a vet tech. Many don’t get much more than minimum wage. I have a four year degree and addition certifications and still do not think I would be able to live on my own without help. I love what I do, but sometimes I wonder if a different course wouldn’t have been a better choice.
If money and glory are your hopes and dreams, move on; you are not going to find it in this field.
If you have means to live and want something fulfilling - go for it.
We have had several owners walk in recently, one guy got pissed when we said we couldn’t fit him in until about 7 pm (after our last scheduled appt) and shouted F--- You and walk out - like okay bud.
Do you think that the increase in Urgent cares for people contribute to this?
Do you think the general population of dog owners get offended when you don’t ask what breed their dog is?
I was out for a walk with my pup and got stopped by someone to chit chat bout dogs. They as my dog’s breed and when I didn’t immediately ask about their dog it seemed the convo fizzled and they parted ways - like i know your dog is a oodle of doodle thing....
I’m Backkkkkk
Six years in private practice and I need a place to talk that is safe from my coworkers ( i love them but ya know). We’ll see what happens

Proximal- near to the attachment of the trunk
Distal- farther from attachment to the trunk
Ex: The toes are distal to the hock. The hip is proximal to the stifle.
Ipsi-lateral- same side
Contra-lateral-opposite side
Ex: The brain injury resulted in ipsi-lateral paralysis. The stroke that occurred in the right side of the brained resulted in contralateral muscle weakening.
Lateral: further from the midline
Medial: closer to the midline
Ex: On the back leg there is a lateral saphenous vein the the outside of the leg, and a medial sapheneous vein on the inside of the leg.
Palmer: describing the surface of the palm
Plantar: describing the sole of the food
Ex: The palmer surface was burnt by the pavement. The right plantar surface has a laceration.

Anatomical Positioning
Being able to correctly and precisely described the location of an injury or spot on the animals body is important in note taking and having the doctor understand what you are talking about.
Define Ipsi-lateral and Contra-lateral.
Explain lateral vs medial.
Explain proximal vs distal.
What is the difference between palmer and plantar?
So I know I have been pretty sporadic posting here, but lately I have been trying to think of a way to keep my mind fresh when it comes to vet tech information since there is so much to know and always something new to learn.
I am going to be posting daily quizzes for now, if you have any request on subjects or suggestion for anything new please send me a message:)
I swear... I cannot handle seeing Hulk being called a pit bull... Breed standard is like 30-60 pounds for a pit bull....he has to be a mix. as for the "breeders"....who lets their toddler right their dog like a pony, a dog is not made for that, just add that to the list of his problems he probably already has!
Why a visit?
One thing that I think frustrates a lot of people is being told, either by front office staff or by their actual veterinarian, that their animal needs to be seen before any medical advice can be given. Veterinarians often get accused of forcing people to come in for seemingly innocuous complaints, supposedly in order to get extra cash out of people.
So why do veterinarians insist on those visits? And why, oftentimes, do those visits lead to (often expensive) diagnostic tests?
