Hey, do you know that feeling of hitching up a long skirt so you don’t fall on your face when walking upstairs, and then you immediately become a wretched yet resolute Jane Austen character? It’s a universal thing, right?
Hair blowing in the wind and suddenly you’re hovering on a cliff by the sea, staring out into the waves and praying your merchant husband will return from his voyage across the ocean
Hood up against the rain and wind and you’re a medieval abbess defying the weather and travelling on foot with your people to find a place to establish a new community.
The cool fall wind catches your skirt, sends leaves swirling around your feet, and catches your hair and sends it flying behind you, and suddenly you’re a enchantress roaming the woods, daring any man to challenge your power.
Multiple subplots are balanced in accordance with their affect on the plot.
Finding a plot among pre-made plans means looking to your protagonist to find direction and to the world to create obstacles, and especially being flexible to change those plans for the sake of a better story.
Flashbacks, if used solely to convey exposition/backstory, are unnecessary– but entire plots can be built on them if done correctly.
Quick Tips:
Character weaknesses should mean something to the plot, not just be added for a “more 3D” person.
Agency keeps stories interesting and prevents puppet characters.
How a protagonist prioritizes different conflicts can not only affect the plot but say a lot about character.

This lion’s name is Bonedigger and he was born with a crippling bone disease, so the keepers introduced three dachshunds to give him companionship; Abby, Bullet and Milo.
Yall please stop sharing this. These animals were kept at a wildly abusive roadside zoo owned by a man who was recently arrested for trying to hire a hit man to kill a female animal activist and big cat rescuer. He also made threats towards a friend of mine who investigated his zoo years ago.
Do NOT support roadside zoos. And certainly do not support attempted murderers.
