Experience for recording and analyzing human movement to use Lanbanotation which created by Rudolf Laban. Analysis the prototype video to  recognized  dancer’s expressions.

The study aims at measuring and analyzingdance gestures in term of basic emotions of dance performance, and increasespectator’s recognition from dancer’s express intentions of a danceperformance. Thereare two steps to design the garment for dancer to express emotions:

1. The first step, lookat dance performance, such as ballet dance, modern dance, try to define whichemotions are express from dancers of dance performance? How was the qualities of movement are on the dancers when they express emotions? With the initial prototype of the video,  I study from watch ballet dance performance, and design dress based on body-movement to explore basic emotions of the wearer through shape changing. It is inspired by ballet dance and designed with aesthetic aims, the interfaces in the aesthetics category derive from domains such as fashion, art and architecture. Besides, I try to find opportunities of interaction design through shape changing of performance art, how is interaction conceived, constructed and integrated within a design process?

 2. The second step, analysis the video to be associated in different combinations for each emotion category as in the following configuration:

Sad: lying down on the floor, small movement of the feathers

Depressed: sitting on the floor, arm down, the garment is dead, the person           doesn't move.

Frustrated: sitting on the floor, moving arms,  it has two steps, feather and plastic fall down, the person pulls it up

Tense: standing on the floor, moving arms, little movement with the person touch it

Relaxed: standing on the floor, arms up, rotating the body, dress moving with the  body, it is constrained

Pleased: standing on the floor, arms up, rotating the body, dress moving with the body,  it opens up

Exited: standing on the floor, arms up, rotating the body,  dress goes up by itself, moving with the body

The Concept Of Video

Design garment related to body-based design,focusing on interaction for dress and body of wearer, investigate how observer feeling emotions, as inspiration for tangible design. I make the video for the initial prototype, which transmits a simple interaction with dress and dancer, experience with measuring and analyzing dance gestures expressive in terms of emotions: sad, depressed, frustrated, tense, relaxed, pleased, excited from the areas of full body movement with arms, hands, wrists and legs. Here is the concept process of the video:

At first, when wearer lying on the ground and into huddle form, the dress with body into a closed shape, and conveys sad; then the wearer sit up slowly from ground, the dress open up slowly along with the shoulder and arm, express the depressed mood of dancer; then touch the dress, the feathers slowly down with the frustrated mood of wearer; along with tense mood, breathing slowly, gently stroked the “Octopus” shape dress; after that, with the rotation of the head, arms, waist of wearer, the dress moving and rotation slowly with  body movement. The plastic material of dress slightly reflected lights like waves form, the wearer relaxed gently from it; After relax, the dress opening like a flower with the rotation of body, dancers’ mood become into pleased with the opening dress; and finally, wearer’s emotion reach to enthusiasm and excited with quickly rotation of body. In short, the video transmits a simple interaction with dress and dancer, convey basic emotions: from sad, depressed, frustrated, tense, relaxed to pleased and excited.
