I don’t really know how to describe this kind of style. I’m not a big fan of the usual way of rendering portraits, where everything is smoothly blended together. I much prefer painting with a complete color palette and using lots of different colors and tones.
The eyes, especially, usually take me much longer than you can see in the timelapse. Instead of blending everything, I build the painting up with lots of small lines placed next to each other. I only discovered this style for myself recently, but I definitely want to continue experimenting with it.
I also really love using strong, vibrant colors. My other Enjin painting shows that side of my art a lot more clearly. For this one, though, I wanted to paint this version of Enjin for once. He looks a little more like the bad guy here… yummy.
Warning!Opinion: For me, AI is just a tool I sometimes use alongside references, color studies and experimentation. I like experimenting with unusual color combinations, and AI can sometimes help me get an idea of what direction I could take. I also sometimes use references when I’m struggling with anatomy or proportions. I use these things as tools to help me brainstorm, experiment and learn.
I completely understand why some artists are strongly against it, especially considering the problems surrounding AI-generated art and how these systems are trained. But they’re making a whole war about this.
At the same time, I personally don’t think every use of AI automatically belongs in the same category. I know quite a few people who use AI as a support tool for writing, drawing or brainstorming. (In university everyone uses it and nobody cares..huh?)
I think the discussion has become a little too black-and-white sometimes. There are so many posts and videos about “how to spot AI art” now, which can be useful, but it has also created the impression that everything slightly unusual must be AI. If you draw a shoe differently than usual, it’s AI. If you change your color palette to capture your character’s mood, it’s AI. If you happen to draw one eye a little wonky, it’s AI. And if you draw too well… then… it’s AI…
So what now? Am I drawing because I feel like it or because I have to prove I am a human. (I’m not a bot:) Jokes aside. I understand why people are critical of AI. I just don’t think the conversation always has to be so…idk tense and personal. They are always so aggressive when talking about this. Like calm down. I’m tired of arguing. I’ll therefore block some people. I’m not trying to be disrespectful but I made this account to post what I like and connect with others in a kind way, not to argue 24/7. My mental health is not in the best condition for this at the moment. And at some point it just gets old.
AI or not. Everyone is allowed to post whatever they want. Everyone is allowed to create in whatever way they feel comfortable with. It’s 2026…
Don’t get me wrong tho.
I’m 22. I got a tablet pretty late. My family doesn’t exactly have a lot of money. Even at school, where digital technology had already become a normal part of everyday life, I got one very late. I was always the old-school kid until I went to university.
I never had the best phones either, and I belong to the generation that still used WhatsApp and Facebook every day and thought emojis were actually the coolest thing ever created.
Until about three years ago, I mostly drew on paper. The way I draw still resembles the way I used to work traditionally.
A lot of people who accuse someone of using AI barely seem to remember what it was like to draw with oil paint, acrylics or chalk. (I love the smell!) There are no layers. If you made a mistake…well you can wait until it’s dry and paint over it. Oh I wish I had AI back then to help me with anatomy. I always drew animals in human clothing and appearance. But not that furry type of thing (oh hell no) but the kind of old illustration type of stuff you saw in the Victorian era. Anyway guys, please remember that not everyone follows the same process. I never used to make big preliminary sketches.
I sometimes feel that, especially with digital art, where working on a screen can already feel (no IS IN FACT) very different from having a huge canvas in front of you. But apparently..not following certain steps immediately makes people assume that you’re faking it. How dare you not making 4 sketches before you draw? Monet did that too you know? He immediately applied pure paint directly from the tube. How could you? I loved your Nymphéas.
But oh well. I still carry that traditional way of making art with me. I still think with a brush or a pencil. I still experiment with colors. And especially in the modern age, art has so many different forms, doesn’t it?
I understand that everyone has a different opinion on this, and that’s completely fine. But please stop, especially on young artists, to “expose” them. I sometimes feel sorry for them like they just want to post something they have fun with. (It’s a different topic with commissions!)
But you never know who is sitting on the other side of the screen and how sensitive that person might be. But on Twitter, it often turns into a complete witch hunt. Like what in the medieval Inquisition is going on? Are we fr?
Art doesn’t have to follow ONE single formula. And neither does the way someone creates it! Stay safe <3
