Kin
My first P4 game was actually Arena. The moment Yosuke popped up I felt an intense pull and a weird "whoosh" that I can't really describe. I was overwhelmed and immediately shut off the game. I laid down for awhile, wondering what I was feeling. After it passed I tried to play again with same results. I started to feel strange "memories" pop into my head. I didn't understand any of it. I figured I was being "crazy" and went on with life.
I went down the edgy, anti-sjw route and discovered a popular thing to make fun of: otherkin.
I pretended to think it was stupid, but another part of me thought "who cares? They're not hurting anyone".
Hanging out on Tumblr one day, sifting through "otherkin cringe", I discovered "fictionkin". I immediately read everything I could find about this. I didn't want to admit it, even to myself, but I was excited. I felt like I had connected with the word, that it perfectly described me.
I knew the strange intensity I was feeling for the P4 games wasn't normal. I played the main game and other persona games, to be sure I wasn't just super into Personas style. But it was deeper than that.
I kept brushing off the memories, and it hit a point where I was too sad and angry to play the main game. Sad due to things being different, missing my friends, etc. Angry because I kept telling myself that "this isn't real! Stop it!". I stopped playing and moved on with life.
Years have gone by with no changes. I decided to re-look into fictionkin and realise I shouldn't keep lying to myself. I've been so afraid of being mocked that I hid my feelings. I'm still nervous. I really have self loathing issues when it comes to this.
