Hi there! So you want some cute wholesome boys? Some fluffy, no red flags and no dramatic end of the world stakes bl? I hear you. Sometimes I also need some low stakes cuteness and communication, instead of angst and questionable behaviour.
Let me start by saying that if we ignore the recent Secret Relationships for a minute, Korea doesn't really do toxic, as a general rule. I'm not caught up on all the yt ones and I know a couple lean more into cheating and stuff, but outside of that, it's just not something they get into. Angst yes, really sad, depressing, trauma heavy shows, sure. They do like to venture into that every now and again, but proper toxic, red flag territory, not so much. With Japan you get a lot of different flavours.
So let's see what bl sweeties we can find for your detox program.
[MuTeLuv] "Hi” by My Luck
I know you asked for jbls or kbls specifically but I just have to mention these two precious boys before I move on to anything else. MuTeLuv is an anthology series with 7 different stories (only 2 of them are bl from what I can tell), 4 episodes each. The first one just ended this week and I recommend it as part of this because it more than fits the bill. It's only 4 episodes so not a lot of time to waste with anything but the simplicity of two boys falling for each other. Who knew you could flirt with math? I definitely didn't but I'm so glad I got to see it for myself.
It's not all fluff of course but they give me the worst case of cuteness aggression so I needed to include them here.
This is one of the first shows that comes to mind when the word wholesome and BL come together. Just a beautiful journey with food and the most adorable kid in the middle of it all. I promise your day will be better after watching it.
Seung Hyeon might be one of the most adorable kbl mains ever. Just the way he smiles so wide makes me smile. He's a puppy. But really they both are very cute. First time I was partial to the intern, but on my first rewatch I went the complete opposite and loved the boss. I really like his growth and how earnest and honest he is.
Sweetness galore. One of the most adorable chaos muffins in jbl land and the most whipped boyfriend. I really liked how different these characters are and Takara's voice over is sometimes hilarious. And the besties are great too, especially Katori. I love him.
Broken city boy meets sunshine farmer boy. Ye Chan is so dramatic and I love seeing him breaking down Seon Yul's walls bit by bit. It's delightful and funny and with an excellent soundtrack.
These two have my whole entire heart. Besties to lovers, with a master pining boy and an adorable and clueless best friend. This show is perfection from beginning to end. And the visuals... colour coded bokeh, my beloved. One of my biggest comfort shows, and every time I speak about it I wanna rewatch. Also, it's on netflix in most places, if that helps.
This one is not all sunshine and rainbows but it's adorable nonetheless. Puppy/cat pairing with great chemistry between the actors. I love the soundtrack, specially the song that starts it all.
I Became the Lead in a BL Drama (Season 1)
Just pure chaos and a lot of heart in 3 episodes, 45 min each. Granted the second season couldn't replicate the magic so I won't necessarily include it without some caveats, but the first season is excellent. It's Japan at its best, balancing crazy comedy moments with a lot of heart and some interesting commentary. And I still really wanna watch the show within a show, it looks so much fun.
Now, I know you also mentioned currently airing shows, and there are two jbls and one kbl airing at the moment, but I'm not confident yet on recommending them. 10 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 40 is wholesome and cute but also we've had almost 3 eps of angst so a lot of it, for me, will be determined by the ending. There's only one more episode so the wait is almost over. I'm liking it a lot so far, but it's the type of show that is not pleasing everybody. Love Sea JP I'm not crazy about and even if I was, I don't really think it goes with what you want. My Bias Is Showing?! is great and honestly getting better every week which is surprising, but the setup is not exactly wholesome, with less than innocent motives, so with your question in mind, not sure if it's something you'd want to watch. Although even if I was feeling very anxious in the beginning because of the premise, I was still having a lot of fun with both of the mains.
Of course these are just some of the shows that would fit your description. I wasn't sure how a little bit of angst would fit into your detox so I kept it mostly on the fluffy, wholesome side of bl.
