Types of witchcraft (and how to know which one you are)
I recently got a great question from someone and I figured I’d turn it into a post!
Before we get into the list, I want to mention eclectic witchcraft. You can totally follow many traditions and I encourage you to try everything you’re interest in and then follow whatever you feel most dedicated to, and there’s no shame in being a life long learner who constantly tries new things from different traditions.
All I ask is that you do it respectfully!!!
Eclectic witches follow many different traditions and refuse to be tied down to just one thing. How awesome is that!

🌍 African witchcraft: Someone who follows one of the many different traditions from Africa.
📖 Alexandrian witchcraft: A traditional and ceremonial tradition started by Alex and Maxine Sanders in 1960.
👻 Ancestor witchcraft: Possibly one of the oldest traditions. Witchcraft that is based off of the worshiping of your ancestors.
👼 Angelic witchcraft: Witchcraft based off of working with angels and divine beings.
🐻 Animist witchcraft: A tradition that works with nature and often views animals and people as the same beings.
🖼 Art whitchcraft: Witchcraft that utilizes art to a great extent and as the primary method of practice.
✨ Astrology witchcraft: Witchcraft that uses the stars and celestial bodies in magic and sometimes worship.
👁🗨 Augury: Someone who divines signs, omens, or symbols.
🇬🇧 British Traditional witchcraft: A tradition that follows those of the British Isles.
🍀 Celtic witchcraft: A tradition that follows those of Celtic beliefs.
☄️ Chaos witchcraft: A modern tradition that mixes a little bit of everything. Recommended: a strong belief in what you’re doing.
🐚 Crystal witchcraft: Witchcraft that uses crystals often.
🔮 Divination witchcraft: Witchcraft that primarily uses methods such as scrying, tarot cards, pendulums, etc.
☘️ Druidism: The Druid tradition.
🌍 Earth witchcraft: Witchcraft that centers around the earth.
🇪🇬 Egyptian witchcraft: witchcraft that follows deities from the Egyptian tradition and traditional magic.
🔥 Elemental witchcraft: Witch craft that utilizes the elements primarily.
🌍 European witchcraft: A tradition based off of the beliefs of one of the many traditions in Europe.
💐 Floral witchcraft: Witchcraft that mostly uses flowers.
🍎 Folk witchcraft: Witchcraft that follows a path of folklore and traditional magic.
📖 Gardenerian witchcraft: A highly structured tradition with different degrees of initiation and strongly protected texts and rituals. Very secretive.
🌿 Green witchcraft: Witchcraft centered around gardening or working with plants and herbs.
✨ Healinf witchcraft: Healing is used as the primary method of work.
🏡 Hearth witchcraft: Witchcraft with a focus around the home.
👻 Hedge witchcraft: Witchcraft centered around the spirit world.
🏛 Hellenic witchcraft: Witchcraft based off of Ancient Greek traditions.
👵🏼 Hereditary witchcraft: A tradition that has been passed down in your family for many generations.
🍳 Kitchen witchcraft: Witchcraft that is mostly done in the kitchen.
👹 Luciferian witchcraft: A tradition based off of the worship of Lucifer.
🎼 Musical witchcraft: Witchcraft that primarily uses music.
🌅 Neo-pagan witchcraft: A tradition using old pagan customs that have been brought to new life through modern usage.
🌳 Norse witchcraft: Witchcraft using the old Scandinavian tradition.
🌊 Sea Witchcraft: Witchcraft using the ocean and it’s power.
⭐️ Secular witchcraft: A tradition that does not observe any deities.
🀄️ Sigil witchcraft: Witchcraft that uses symbols to manifest intent.
🗡 Solitary witchcraft: Witchcraft that is practiced alone.
🔬 Tech witchcraft: Witchcraft that uses modern technologies.
⭐️ Wiccan witchcraft: A tradition based upon the Wiccan tradition and belief system.
You will know which one you are once you’ve tried the ones your interested in. If you like water and the ocean, try sea witchcraft. If you’re a nature lover, try all of the nature related ones if you desire! Don’t be afraid to identify as an eclectic witch. There’s no shame in that!
