Rainer Maria Rilke, "Letters to a Young Poet" (translated by M. D. Herter Norton)
The piece is titled "A Cute Mascot That Won't Make You Uncomfortable," displayed at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduation Exhibition, according to this source.
The inside is roughly translated to:
Sometimes we have to look at things that aren't cute and make us uncomfortable.
"Because I don't really understand it."
"Because it just feels unpleasant."
If we keep turning a blind eye like that until we can't see anything anymore, then eventually even the cute things will disappear.
No doubt a commentary about Japan hiding the rampant racism, fascism, and consistent war crimes throughout history after its "kawaii" rebranding post-WWII.
