The way Egyptologist treat dead bodies….like you could be a king and your body still isn’t respected. It’s just a gross reminder that black and brown bodies and our cultures are still not respected. I really do hate it. It’s not even about “spooky curses”, it’s about these folks customs being vehemently against their bodies being exposed or their items removed from their coffins. 

Please respect the fucking dead. Stop unearthing and opening Pharaohs coffins. Like literally the whole point was for them to go to the afterlife with their belongings IN their coffins. 

We may not want to acknowledge it, but that is racism. Your disrespect of a cultures that’s not yours, an African culture, is heavily racist. Considering Egyptology and the entire field of freaking archeology is racist af, this isn’t surprising. But like, really.

So the end conclusion that I got from our wonderful egyptologist on the post was because there’s no cultural representative left of your culture, your religion and your beliefs do not matter. You may have had a belief that was important to you, but it doesn’t matter to me.

This mindset has been used so, so many times to justify so much horror not only in the field or archeology but others as well. And the fact that this is going over people’s head tells you that they are just entitled. To see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

And maybe I do understand the need to unearth people, and I do and can justify and agree with it especially when folks are being culturally relevant and respectful and at least aware of what they’re doing and how important certain things in a culture are. I can understand it if you have respect and appreciation for the culture to the point of understand just how sacred what you’re doing is, but that’s not people in the notes at all. It’s clear you just view people as bags of bones with little thought to their culture.

I’m absolutely exhausted with the sheer amount of entitlement and cultural disrespect, and I’m not really surprised that the field of archeology gets such a crappy name. Oh well. I think history has done enough to prove how shitty these people are. My post just drew it out. I can be easy knowing society more or less views archeologist as grave robbers, and that’s not going away anytime soon. Thank you @dankarchaeologymemes for proving my point.
