Art is hard and you never cease to learn something new everyday. There is no artist that hasnt encountered a wall, dont turn around, climb it. Believe you can.
ahh im sorry if youve gotten this before but could you do a tutorial on how the head connects to the neck/neck connects to the shoulders?? i saw a small tutorial on shoulders but it was more about how to draw than than how to connect them to the head and the rest of the body u_u
a lot of people asked about necks but i donāt Ā much to say so i covered a little of the muscles too HEREāS A MORE DETAILED muscle diagram if youāre interested!Ā donāt overwork the neck muscles bc in a lot of people they actually donāt rly show up at all ALSO I tend to draw longer necks out of habit ,some people have shorter necks
REAL LIFE REFS ARE THE BEST GO STARE AT SOME NECKSĀ
if someone asked you for this url would you give it away
no fuck off
edit: broke up the images more so hopefully it isnāt super blurry now!

im having a hard time thinking of poses to draw????? cn you help maybe>???????/
UMM for me itās easier to come up with poses if I think of my character as doing an ACTION not a pose idk if that makes sense?
So instead of thinking of a fixed pose, I think of an action that my char could be doing e.g eating a piece of pie
itās easier for me to visualize a pose if thereās some context YEAH
ALSO I like to draw sequences? of a certain action, and then pick the one I like best e.g. if my OC is reading
1) Standard pose > 2 & 3 poses that might follow after if this is movingĀ
or if theyāre frying an egg
Ā I donāt draw it out in full all the time ofc, sometimes I just draw like really sketchy sequences yeah idk if that makes sense, but it helps me figure out poses besides the most obvious one!
WHEN YOU DONāT KNOW where to put the hands always go back to: WHAT WOULD YOU DO if youāre doing this particular action?? And if all things fail, you can always go to sites like pixelovely for poses
Hereās a background tutorial that was intended to hand out to the painters on Over the Garden Wallā¦Iām actually not sure if I ever did (maybe German or Levon can chime in on this) Anyway, I whipped this up super fast in the early days of pre-production and it might be of interest or help to some aspiring digital painters out there.Ā
fyi asking for a url that someone is still using is the fucking rudest thing you can do
Landscape/Environment Tut
Okay so i got a few notes on how i go about Environments/Landscapesā¦so iāll share a method thats easy to work withā¦.bare with me its been a little while since ive drawn them Lol
First thing you want to start of with in your gradient backgroundā¦use what ever is your preference. Depends on the setting, ima do some type of desert/dusty place.
Youāll learn that the Lasso tool is gonna be your bae when it comes to environmentsā¦that and its pretty useful. Now your going to be working in three tones, 1.Dark 2.Mid 3.Light and it will always be the darkest at the front fading to light towards the backā¦make sense? So you will have three layers for each one to make your life easier and Lock those layers so you will only color within that area. Make sure the dark layer is on top.Ā
Here is where the fun kicks inā¦we add our dets, try to stay with each tone and dont end up making it all muddy so you cant distinguish each one. Now you can go about this any way you please, you can paint it all in with one brush ( for some reason people get anal about shit like that, thinking there great for using one brushā¦i think if you got tools use em if you know how to do it right.) Or you can use custom brushesā¦since this is a tut ill mostly use custom brushes to slap stuff around. Its up to you really, also use the lasso tool like i said its your bae.
The lasso can help define things better for you, so i wanted to add a structure type on the third layer. If you want to give an effect that the selection ive made is in front of the background right click your selection and invert it, add some lighting around the edgesā¦only a little though you dont want to over do it.
Also if youāve done something on a layer you dont want to mess up or paint on what you can do is create a clipping mask on that layer. Its kinda like locking the layer to that one so you dont go outside of the layer or ruin what you worked on. Make a new layer above the one you wish to attach it to and right click the newlayer, a menu will pop up, your looking for clipping mask. Once you clicked it the layer should look like what ive circled.Ā
Once your done working on each layer we are gonna put in some mist effect, this is something that helps separate each section. So make a new layer between each of your three as shown in the image. Like i said you can use what ever method you like, i just use a soft brush or cloud/mist brush to get what i want.Ā
Now we are going to add some definition to the image a good one to use is Curves. You can find this where your layer menu is, at the bottom youāll find it, ive circled what your looking for. On the third image is what will appear when you click curves, all you need to do is drag the little square and youāll see some magic happen. So adjust it to your preference. If you want you can also mess with brightness/contrast too. ALSO i would recommend adding a person in the image, it gives you an idea of the scale your environment is.
I was going to end it there but hey, ill show one last thingā¦its pretty simple. and that is some water reflection, we are going to turn the middle into water instead cause its a little boring right now. I merged all layers but the first one, you then want to make a selection and copy/paste. Free transform in the shortcut is ctrl T and do a vertical flip on it then adjust so its mirroring the top.Ā
Now make a clipping mask like i explained earlier on the reflected surface and use the radiant toolā¦i think its called that lol it gives it more of a water surface like you see. For the image below it i used a custom brush which creates a water effect, aaaaaaaaaand bam you got you water now covering the areaā¦easy huh.Ā
And so this concludes the Tutorial and you have the end result. Hopefully that gave some tips on how to approach landscapesā¦they can be confusing sometimes on where to start. Enjoy and let me know if it was useful or not :P
hhhhh your art is so beautiful u v u. I'm wondering if you could do some references on backs? Of course only if you have time and feel like doing so o v o;;;
forgive my handwriting I HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE BC IM NOT RLY SURE IF IT MAKES SENSE also here are some pics of rl backs which you can also locate via google 1,2,3,4,5(nsfw bc butt)Ā

Redid a post by fucktonofanatomyreferencesreborn with sources because they never source anything and I donāt want to reblog that post because I donāt want to support blogs who donāt give credit to people
(No, stating that the art is ~not yours~ and ~came from elsewhere~ IS NOT PROPER CREDIT. Many of these have usernames and such on them but not every single one and you still ought to link back to the specific piece)
I couldnāt source the last one so I didnāt include it.
Tutorial: Hands while kissing - by Auroracarina-Chan on DeviantArt
Since the tutorial is marked as āmatureā, you cannot use the share-function to post it all on tumblr (srsly, I understand why ppl donāt wanna mark their work as mature⦠it limit your work to be seen a bit too much in some cases).
The reason why this tutorial is marked as mature is⦠I THINK itās because you see some nipples, but itās a ridiculous reason to make it unable to post on tumblr (dA has a share function where you can post art from dA with proper source and everything.)
Anyway, I took some screenshots from the tutorial, so you guys can see it without having to be a member on dA.
And hereās a screenshot that couldnāt get into the photoset:
slightly NSFW, but a fantastic tutorial on where to draw hands when kissing, and what the hands look like when placed there!
A Tutorial Masterpost
Some tutorials that Iāve come across, organized both for my own viewing pleasure and to hopefully assist others as well. I update this list whenever I come across new, helpful pieces.
A lot of these are hosted on my personal Tumblr, but I donāt change my url so itās pretty safe to bookmark them there (and not have to worry about the url changing) if you donāt wish to reblog them yourself for whatever reason.

I briefly mentioned the bookĀ Pharaonic Egyptian ClothingĀ (one of the few available surveys on, predictably, pharaonic Egyptian clothing)Ā in my historical fashion master postĀ some months ago, but I also mentioned that itās out of print and a royal pain in the butt to get your hands on.
Seeing how Iām never one to selfishly hoard good reference (and Iām tired of checking it out of the library over and over again like Iām Belle or something), I finally scanned the whole damn thing and uploaded it HERE for you to download and peruse!
(point of note: this book was published in 1993 so thereās always a slim chance that some of this information might be considered out of date over the past twenty-odd years,Ā but there are so few resources dedicated to the topic that Iām more than willing to take that chance.)
Enjoy, let me know if the link stops working, and go draw some historically accurate Egyptian people! Ā NOW. Ā GO GOGOGOGO.
ahhh I hope this serves as some sort of use for people? orz
learn your anatomies to the point that you can build it in simple shapes! perspective is also essential, iām sorry
if you can build things in your head and take them apart in your head you will have little to no problems building your pictures { aside from composition issues }.
remember to use references, itās not cheating, your mind wonāt ever come up with as much variety as nature and if you havenāt rendered something before and you donāt know how to do it, what are you going to do? not use references?
and practice lots, itās the only way to develop your own style and see what sorts of stylization works and what doesnāt!
