“days are tranquil and the world goes steady”, aka a Sei’naka family retreat to the botanical garden.

Inspired by Botanical Garden by Ogata Gekko. 墨田河百花園七草: Sumigadawa Botanical Garden, 7 well-known flowers.

there are some details i quite enjoyed adding to this piece; one i would like to explain right away:

this is my handwriting (! criticize it; i probably deserve) in simplified Chinese, 岁月静好 现世安稳 (suì yuè jìng hǎo / xiàn shì ān wěn, “days are tranquil and the world goes steady”). It was a part of the wedding statement between a famous Chinese (and later) American author/novelist/translator 张爱玲 (Eileen Chang) and a fellow writer 胡兰成 (Hu Lan Cheng) in 1944.

The statement was simple, only two sentences long in total. Apart from declaring who was involved in the marriage, there was only the quote above, phrased as a wish. It seems a casual wish for peace and tranquility, compared to most promises of endless devotion, love, and entanglement during weddings; yet during the war-ridden, tumultuous time they lived, this simple wish was very much an unattainable luxury.

As much as i wish that Rangi and Kyoshi spent their days happy and tranquil with their adopted daughter Koko, i don't think that would be the case. With Kyoshi as the Avatar, she would always be on the forefront of danger; any cracks in their world's peace would be felt by her keenly. Rangi would follow Kyoshi anywhere — until she can do so no longer. i don't see Rangi continuing the Sei'naka tradition of becoming an educator until some key event pushes her in that direction most likely an irrevocable injury during an avatar mission, so my wish for them is that they at least have some good moments of peace and quiet, to simply be in a moment gilded by their love.

The IOMT chess pieces theory got me thinking about the GH5 concept trailer and the pairings we saw.

We have Rook vs Rook as Mingi and Yunho square off by quite literally towering over Hongjoong.

Knight vs Knight with San and Jongho, although they seem to be keeping distance between them.

Bishop vs Bishop with Yeosang and Wooyoung. They're even moving diagonal to each other like they would be on a chess board.

And finally...King vs Queen. In a total inverse, where the Queen usually protects the King, Seonghwa is targeting Hongjoong.

Might be coincidence, but it's definitely interesting.

i think the reason "fiction affects reality" trips so many people up is because they think it means "engaging with media that depicts uncomfortable subjects will taint your soul" when really all it means is that "fiction is meant to reflect certain ideas of the world intentionally or not, and it's going affect your perception of it, if you don't go in with a healthy bit of skepticism"

like playing a first person shooter isn't going to turn you into a school shooter, but that doesn't mean that Call of Duty isn't like. explicitly military propaganda.

or (for a more specific but also weirdly common example) enjoying horror movies isn't going to turn you into a serial killer, but if you watch a lot of horror where the killer is "a gender confused man who kills women whilel dressed in drag, because his repressed female split personality hates his attraction to women because it gives her gender dysphoria" than you should like. be a bit criticial of what you're enjoying. or something like that.
