Little did I know as a child that this game and song originated in a time of disease, death, and the decimation of many cities, brought about by the plague. Neither did I know many legends about *zombies* arose during the bubonic plague.

Not only did plague victims look heinous, but their symptoms could include internal bleeding and fainting or lapsing into a short comatose state, apparently returning from death when they regained consciousness. The plague(s) eliminated half of Europe’s population at one time and continue to effect people in the 21st century. With the rise of the plague will come the return of the zombies.
