Despite his rather selfish admission of not thinking of her, while he was abroad, only jubilant words and caring touches were given from Queen Lucy to Edmund . A smile crept onto his lips; he bit his lower lip and chewed on it softly to stop the smile from curling up any further. He wasn’t too proud to smile at the joy his sister brought to him. Though it was that the papers he held in his hands held weighty news for the High King and his family. It seemed only dutiful that he should keep from looking too carefree when Peter was no doubt anxiously awaiting the news.
As Edmund stepped through the threshold of the door leading to the main entrance of Cair Paravel, he felt the atmosphere change. If clouds weren’t a good enough indicator of the encroaching rain, the barometric pressure was. With storms always came higher than average achiness in Edmund’s old battle injuries. Said injuries might have healed properly, but there was still an unusual pressure in certain joints that seemed to rear they heads at the young King during storms. His left knee was the worst of it today.
When Lucy had returned to his side, Edmund bumped his shoulder into her shoulder. Both as a way to play tease with her and to grab her attention.
“I’ve thought it over, dearest sister, and I am not hungry for anything more than the best sweet apple pie that the kitchen can make. I want nothing savory. Dessert as dinner?”
It was a childish request, but Edmund’s appetite was also vastly nonexistent when he stressed. He could stomach a sweet after delivering the news and papers, but not a full meal.
“Can you meet me in my room in an hour’s time. I need to discuss some things with Peter and then I want to get cleaned up. A boat might be surrounded by water, but bathing is limited to ports only.”
With that, Edmund leaned over and kissed Lucy on the forehead (he was significantly taller than she was now). He then turned on his heels and walked in the direction Peter had taken ahead of them.
The youngest escaped a soft laughter as they bumped into each other followed by a sigh. “You need to eat something, Edmund. Something real, not just pie.“ She protested against that, but also wasn’t so much against it, yet he only said things like that when he was stressed, and she simply knew him to well for that.
“I will make you something small and then we can have pie.“ Lucy said, her hand grabbing his shortly before ther was a kiss placed on her forehead, squeezing his hand she smiled up at him. “Go on, I am sure Peter is waiting.“
With those words the Queen excused herself and made her way to the kitchens, asking them to prepare the a small plate of chicken, with some potatoes and salad on the side and to fetch the freshest and most delicious sweet apple pie they had.
About an hour later, maybe a tad bit later than spoken she knocked on his door, two servants helping her with the food. She couldn’t been happier that he was back and for the help she got from all the people running and living in Cair Paravel. It was simply lovely, they were this one big family, there was only one way, together not against each other.
“Brother?“ She asked, as she walked in not seeing him so she decided to wait, the food filling the room with a mouth watering scent.
