ADORN, produced and directed by Lisa Taouma, is a collection of stories from women around the Pacific about their relationship with their hair.
“Unity is Power.” Day one of Kwanzaa is Umoja, meaning unity. The individual does not exist without the community, and the community does not exist without the individual. Umoja is about nourishing these unions and participating in the sacred bond of kinship through families and friendships. Thank you for participating in our community!🕯
Don't trust light skinned Black women who stand by and cosign colorism perpetuated by Black men. This includes silence and refusal to combat colorism.

AFRO-IRAN | THE UNKNOWN MINORITY
By Mahdi Ehsaei
The photographic series shows a side of Iran, which is unknown by even Iranians. A trip to a place which is inhabited and dominated by the descendants of slaves and traders from Africa.
The Hormozgan province in the Persian Gulf is a traditional and historical region with a diverse and unexplored population. It is framed with unique landscapes and people with profound personalities. Iranians, who still have African blood in them and continue their African heritage with their clothing style, their music, their dance and their oral traditions and rituals.
The resulting portraits reveal new facets and unfamiliar faces, which are not typical for the common picture of Iran. They show details documenting the centuries-long history of this ethnic minority. A confrontation between the Persian culture and the, for Iran unusual, African consciousness.
A surprisingly new experience for the viewer, which shows the current presence of Afro-Iranians in Iran.

Can we talk about these precious babies that embody Black girl magic 🙌🏾
All of them are as brilliant as stars.
I aspire to be like these girls’ mothers. Can you imagine having a child so bright, realizing it, and then giving them the resources and platform to use their gifts? So many children are this talented and we will never know about them because of lack of support or funding.
hell yeah

I HAVE WAITED ALL YEAR TO POST THIS
I love this
A draconian new state law turns the common school fight into a felony. Instead of detention, children will now face up to 4 years in prison.
The Hazelwood School District put out a memo to parents and guardians stating that, according to Missouri statute, fights at school or on buses will be treated as felonies — which can result in up to four years of prison, fines or probation.

The Himba wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat and ochre. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. This symbolizes earth’s rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty.
It also protects their skin from the harsh sun.
It’s also to keep them clean because they live in parts where water is scarce and drinking > bathing. As the otjize flakes off, dirt and dead skin go with it.
The Himba also use it to style their hair, and different headwear is worn during different stages of a female’s life to symbolize her becoming a woman.
I will forever reblog this because I find it so damn beautiful.
Well this stuff makes their skin look awesome, i need some of that.
