rewatching has also made me appreciate winry’s writing even more bc beyond the usual support/LI role of a shonen FMC she’s actually allowed to actively pursue her own goals and interests outside of the brothers’ main plot rather than seeming like she only exists when around them

even when she doubts her own agency bc she feels as tho she’s powerless to help ed and al the narrative literally immediately reminds her of the success she’s achieved all by herself without their assistance directly countering the idea that her life pauses when she’s off-screen

then there’s other refreshing stuff like her support being practical not traditionally feminine engineering as well as emotional or how ed doesn’t stop her from killing bc she’s a girl—the story has other female fighters—instead bc of who she is as an individual but in conclusion
