RANT INCOMING!

The 'canon' retro Dandy's World designs don't vibe right w/ me. That artstyle just ain't it chief. If I were to imagine Dandy's World's retro skins, it'd either be based on UPA style (because UPA style is pretty, I think it would fit the bright colors and strong character archetyping of Dandy's World, and you do not need to experience the whole of my rant on how other cartoon styles deserve to have horror games for themselves), or we'd get weird, somewhat crusty 1920s-1940s concepts for the modern cast. Or both. Both would be good and make up for the uhhhhh 'canon' retro Dandy's World skins.

amnesia as a trauma response has the potential to be so fucking funny because imagine you just spent like 6 months breaking Whumpee down piece by piece, stripping them of their rights, destroying their mind and body with scars that will never heal, relishing in the irrevocable damage done by your hand even after they've been rescued

and then you run into them at a grocery store and they're like "oh hey (: sorry didn't see you there ((((: no i have no idea who you are but you're blocking the shelf i need to look at"

my ass would be humbled so goddamn fast. i would be shinji gripping the sink sobbing in the mirror because Whumpee basically just called me cringe. my brilliant torturing apparently meant fuckall and i'm not even worth the time of day. they'd probably misspell my name on a starbucks cup. whumper turned whumpee because how do i recover from that. what the fuck.

Whumpee remembers. Not the exact details, but they remember the feelings and emotions. They’re just trying to avoid giving a shit. However, when they see this reaction, something clicks within them. They want to get into Whumper’s head, not in the way Whumper shoved Whumpee into their head. They want to infect every happy memory Whumper ever had involving them. Learn where their house is, their favorite places, where their work is. Just those things. They know what Whumper’s favorite things are. They leave gifts. Little gifts that aren’t quite right. Eventually things climax. Whumper is just, so tired. Whumpee is more than happy to let him stay over.

Whatever happens afterwards is to someone else’s discretion.

I don’t dislike Western CRPGs in principle; I’m just well and truly sick of the visual aesthetic where all the characters look like animated Warhammer figurines. Give me big-eyed anime critters any day - at least I don’t have to look at yet another iteration of Manlyhands McShoulderpad and his wardrobe of tastefully blood-stained earth tones.

And it’s not like I’m keen on the anime aesthetic in particular. There’s a lot of room to explore Western styles here. Give us a CRPG where the characters look like classic Disney. Give us a CRPG where the characters look like 50s pop art. Hell, give us a CRPG where the characters look like Monet paintings - there’s a JRPG series out there that looks like straight-up ink brush drawings, I’m sure we can pull off a decent Impressionist watercolour vibe. Anything but more WarHammerCraftAge.

While you're wishing, I want a CRPG that's vaguely Looney Tunes. Please, for the love of god, I want screwed up toon guys in CRPG bullshit situations. I'll even throw you a little bone and say, "you can use a little anime, I will allow it". I like One Piece, I like Lupin the Third, I like Time Bokan. If no one else makes it, I WILL. AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.

What with bucket hats, bare midriffs, and flared jeans having been resurrected by some irresponsible necromancer with frosted tips, I figure there’s no better time to resurrect some of my favorite Y2K fonts. Honorable mention to Yeoman Jack, an excellent free modern face by Iconian that looks more like it’s from the early 2000s than many of their actually 20 year old fonts. I tried to stick to fonts that I was pretty sure were not based on an existing typeface.
