Hanschen knew Ernst thought he'd forgotten. He'd done that on purpose, the way people sometimes did with a birthday party. Make it seem like he'd forgotten to make the surprise even better. He'd just lit the candles when he heard the door close, setting the lighter down and moving to stand beside the set table, smiling at Ernst and signing 'Happy Anniversary.'

Ernst knew Hanschen wasn’t amazing with dates, but he was still disappointed when there was not even a mention of their anniversary. He was quiet for the whole day and almost didn’t even go to their meeting place, but couldn’t disappoint his boyfriend. He walked into the house and stared in astonishment before letting out a loud squeak of excitement and running over to the other boy. He leaped onto Hanschen, holding onto him tightly and laughing.
Hanschen laughed at Ernst squeaked, catching the other boy in his arms and holding him. He was careful not to fall, the last thing he wanted was to accidentally harm either of them. He pressed kiss after kiss to his face, wanting Ernst to feel how happy he was that they were here, how much he loved him. After a minute he just nuzzled into the crook of his neck, savouring the closeness. Truth be told he had been a little worried Ernst would be too upset with him to show up.
Erst finally slipped out of Hanschen’s grip. He pulled away, unable to stop himself from giggling. ‘I thought you forgot!’ He signed quickly, grinning from ear to ear. ‘Oh my God I was sure you forgot, I nearly didn’t come here.’ He smiled. ‘I love you so much Hanschen.’
