also have a sketch from Dunbar which I did at the weekend but - say it with me - forgot to post
you may think this looks precarious but my biggest mistake was not making it look precarious enough
(photo from Wikipedia, not mine)
Spent a bunch of time at the Bowes Museum today, sketching both in my own sketchpad and on the easels they obligingly have around the painting galleries.
don't have an artist or name for this bust. call him moustache man.
Portrait of a Young Girl, 1806, Louise Marie-Jeanne Hersent-Mauduit
Harry George Vane, 4th Duke of Cleveland, George Watts (1817-1904 - no date given for the painting itself)
The Tears of Saint Peter, 1580-1589, El Greco
(I always forget just how exaggerated and stylised El Greco's paintings are - they look fairly realistic at first glance and then the closer you look the more cartoonish they are. I love them. truly one of my favourite artists of all time actually.)
and I knocked this one out in 10 minutes because it was coming up to closing time, so I didn't get any details or photos of the original marble.
foggy....
forgot to post these yesterday, but: sketches from the Surgeon's Hall museum in Edinburgh
forgot to post it on Saturday but I really like this photo I took in Portobello
I do not want to die, but to have been dead for some undeterminable length of time; Until the bones have gone to compost in the earth and there is no-one to bring flowers and no fond memories left to dwell upon; Until all the grief and guilt and sorrow all the love and loss and longing have been subsumed into the same empty history; Until some historian meandering through old records, until some walker strolling through a cemetery sees my faceless name, and pauses for a moment thinking: I wonder who they were and wanders on.
Burial, 06/07/2026
be honest, would you buy this postcard?
anyway I've been going for walks a lot, here's a selection of photos from the past four days
John Muir is getting progressively older and closer. you cannot escape John Muir. he is coming.
(got bored working the desk at the John Muir museum so I sketched the photos of him that were on the books in the gift shop)
At this point it's becoming a Thing that I will make anything with nettles except nettle soup
here's my nettle risotto, nettle beer, nettle cordial, and nettle Turkish delight (which absolutely slaps by the way)
There is, in fact, life beyond politics.
Also I've left an arrow somewhere in these woods.
a curated selection of my photos from Darlington Day of Dance on Saturday (11/04/2026)
took these standing in the wind and rain with no gloves and my knees out (my team's kit has long stockings and short trousers and about four inches of space between the two) and jesus christ lads it was fucking baltic
Made a get well soon card for my friend who recently had surgery.
She was being menaced by seagulls while she was in hospital, so I thought I'd make sure she had company now she's home. 😇
i may come back to this, but i'm happy enough with it for now

If you like my work, consider commissioning me! All info is on my Carrd. I am wary of Tumblr PMs as there are so many bots: if you message me to enquire about commissions please include the word Weaver in the first message so I know you're a real person.
this whole "do a tone study before you paint" approach is having uhhhhh mixed results tbh
eta: i'm getting mad because i LOVE how elphaba is turning out and meanwhile glinda still doesn't look great
hated Glinda's face so i totally redid it
