There is an old Polish custom from times of yore called "śluby braterskie" when two unrelated knights would take vows of brotherly love and fidelity, to share everything and help each other always till the day they die. "Bracia ślubni" means "sworn/wedded brothers". Sometimes it was a humble ceremony with two men taking an oath under a cross before going to war, sometimes it was a ceremony at church with a huge fucking feast, a priest, exchanging wedding bands, family members present and shit like that - ending feuds, celebrating new beginnings and new familial ties, etc.
