WOO HEALER!!
[Maddie walks in carying parker]
Hello? Are you here?
(A demon with curly blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin and freckles smiles at her.)
Hi!!
I’m Felis. Uh, here’s a bed.
(He points at a cot by the end of the clinic.)
[She nods and walks over. Despite her harpy features she lacks an aura]
Can I ask what happened?
He had a coughing fit and passed out. Cassidy thought it was asthma
An asthma diagnosis is usually pretty long..
Lots of exams, but I can.. try to shorten it.
But I probably can’t do anything while he’s asleep..
Can we get an emergency inhaler just in case for now?
Sure, I can get you one.
If we can get him to wake up, I can give him a breathing treatment.
[She gently shakes parker]
@vandalized-swingset
(He jolts awake and pushes away, backing into a corner)
Woah!
Hi, it’s okay. My name is Felis. Your.. guardian brought you in because you passed out. We think you have asthma.
(He backs away, smiling softly.)
Cassidy said that too. I guess that makes sense.
What can I do?
I mean, I could run an exam, check your breathing but I’m not too sure if you’d like me touching you.
So I could just.. give you a breathing treatment and see if that helps.
Just do the examination thing. I’ll have to get it checked eventually.
Okay!
Uhh..
(He looks around, using some gravity magic to pull a stethoscope towards him.)
I’m gonna listen to your lungs and see if there’s any wheezing, just take some as deep breaths as you can for me?
(He nods and starts breathing deeply. There’s some wheezing as he exhales.)
A bit of wheezing as you exhale..
Feel like you need to cough?
I- Yes? I had a coughin’ fit earlier and couldn’t breathe until after I passed out-
I’m sorry about that..
Um, has this happened before or often?
Kinda? I guess my whole life, I didn’t realize other people didn’t have to cough or didn’t struggle to breathe at night. And there’s been times where it wasn’t so bad.
Hmm, makes sense..
What do you think triggers it? Any seasonal allergies?
I don’t know what allergies I have. But it’s not usually specific to a season or anythin’.
Okay!
Are youuu… often exposed to tobacco smoke, chemical fumes, dust or other airborne irritants?
I smoke cigarettes a lot. Or I used to, before my dad died. I’m tryna quit now.
Oh, I’m sorry bout your dad..
Well, I won’t push you on it, but I would recommend not smoking anymore, cause it could.. it could inflame your lungs and make you have more attacks.
Yeah, I figured. Just more motivation to quit, I guess.
Okay, let me just..
One second, I’m looking for something..
(He digs through some cabinets before pulling this out with an alcohol swab, cleaning the mouthpiece.)
This is a spirometer!
I’ll be ummm.. using it to help diagnose you. You put the mouthpiece on, take a deep breath and breathe as hard as you can, and we’ll see how far the meter goes up!
And after, I might have you take a breathing treatment and do this again, to see if the medicine umm.. cleared up your airways any.
Is that okay?
…Okay. (He does what Felis directed him to do with the spirometer)
Okay, uh.. do that a few more times..
(He writes the numbers down.)
…Alright, so um..
Those numbers look pretty low. It could be because of.. yknow asthma, or it could be your history of smoking..
(He taps his pen against his chin.)
Great. Is there any way to actually know?
We could do the breathing treatment! To um.. to see. Would that be okay? You wouldn’t be able to talk for.. 10, 15 minutes because you’ll have the mask on. Don’t worry, your mom can be here the whole time!
…Sure.
Is there anything else I can do for you to make you feel comfortable?
No. The sooner it’s done, the better. I’ll get more stressed the more buildup there is.
One more thing, are any of you bad with loud noises?
@that-one-harpy
... I think Parker is.
So.. the uh breathing machine can be pretty loud..
Would you like headphones or something?
@vandalized-swingset
I’ll be fine.
(He nods, leaving the bed to look for the machine. He comes back a few minutes later and plugs it in, putting a liquid in a hole and turning it on.)
The albuterol sometimes makes people shaky, but it’ll go away, don’t worry!
(He clears his throat awkwardly, handing Parker the mask.)
(He does end up somewhat shaky afterwards, which seems to unnerve him despite the warning)
How are you feeling? Can you breathe better?
Yeah, actually, uh- a lot better.
(He grabs the stethoscope, checking out his lungs.)
Yeah, you sound way better, no more wheezing!
That's good.
Let’s uh.. do the spirometer one more time..
(He watches the meter go up.)
That’s higher!
Okay, great.
Now, for the inhaler, I can get you albuterol, or albuterol sulfate, apparently albuterol sulfate has the chemical that makes you shaky taken out, but some of my patients say it’s still the same.
I.. I don't know. Whatever's less expensive.
10 dollars, I think. Depends on the pharmacy but there’s one on campus.
I can't use the campus one. I'm sure we'll just figure somethin' out. Albuterol sulfate or whatever sounds okay, I don't want to shake like this often if I can avoid it.
(He nods.)
I’ll set up the pharmacy with your mom!
Um, excuse me?
@that-one-harpy
Let's do this
Sorry, um, what is your address? I can look up a pharmacy nearby for you.
[She gives it to him]
Great!
There’s one.. uh ten minutes from your house. And could you put in your email, if you have one, so they can tell you when it’s ready?
Yup yup
[She does so with a hum]
All good!
I’ll get that um diagnosis penned in for you, and I can print out a care plan?
Please do
It’ll just be stuff like, the pharmacy’s address, and the medicine and the price of it, and the instructions.
And also some information about asthma. Like triggers, symptoms, how it’s diagnosed, treated, and how to avoid triggers.
Wonderful
And ummm..
(He looks around for the printer, grabbing the papers and stapling them together.)
There you go!
(He hands them to her.)
Also my number’s on there, so you can call me if something goes wrong.
Parker, do you want a sucker?
@vandalized-swingset
....
Fine. I'll take one.
(He grins at Parker, giving him a jar to dig through.)
(He picks the first green one he sees)
I think that’s green apple! Is that your favorite?
I just like green stuff.
Can I go home now?
Absolutely.
The shakiness will go away soon, don’t worry.
Bye, Parker, have a good day.

@that-one-harpy
... I think Parker is.
So.. the uh breathing machine can be pretty loud..
Would you like headphones or something?
@vandalized-swingset
@that-one-harpy
@vandalized-swingset

@that-one-harpy
... I think Parker is.
So.. the uh breathing machine can be pretty loud..
Would you like headphones or something?
@vandalized-swingset
@vandalized-swingset
