Mother's Day 2026
Worked today and picked out gifts for my mom, who I'll see later next week. I'm eating chicken vindaloo by myself at an Indian restaurant in Aliso Viejo. I'm not a mother, but I want to be more of a nurturer. I hope to become a more tender woman. I'm 72 days sober and I've been having intense mood swings lately. Someone told me recently that I should try to reach out to others and ask how they are, instead of seeking to be comforted. I am learning to nurture others, and by nurturing others, I think I will learn how to nurture myself. I always felt that I was a loner and I took pride in that, but my solitude morphed into a delusional grandiosity over the years. I'm realizing now, at 29 years old, that I need other people. It's uncomfortable for me to recognize this, but I don't feel alone anymore. Even now, as I type this out in an empty restaurant patio- I am not alone. I am so happy to still be alive. After spending most of my life wishing I wasn't here, I'm so glad that I am.

Under the soft light of the doorway, a mother finds moments to rest while never straying far from the two tiny lives she has brought into the world. Sometimes she watches from above, listening and keeping guard, and other times she curls around them, holding them close against her warmth. In these early days they sleep, stretch, and search for comfort, knowing only the safety of their mother and the small home that shelters them. It is a simple scene, but one filled with devotion, instinct, and the quiet beginning of two new little lives growing under her care.

"Absolutely no one comes to save us but us."

“I read the poem of a student and in the poem God wandered through a room picking up random objects – a pear, a vase, a shoe – and in bewilderment said, ‘I made this?’. Apparently God had forgotten making anything at all. I awarded this poem a prize, because I was a judge of such matters. I was not really awarding the student, I was awarding God; I knew someday the student would pick up his old poem and say in bewilderment, ‘I made this?’, and at that moment his whole world would be lost in the twilight, and when you are finally lost in the twilight you can not judge anything.”
