Wow! Right now I don’t care if I’m going to get caught in the crossfire. I’ll delete again if I have to! But this is the single most childish response to a request I have ever seen. Let’s take this one part at a time, shall we?
First of all, of course there’re other bloggers who repost work from pixiv that shouldn’t. Obviously it’s not just you, and no one’s actually saying that. However, you have to admit that you’re pretty damn popular on Tumblr. Even when I don’t follow this blog, your posts are always on my dashboard. Even putting this blog on my block list doesn’t stop the posts showing up. I think the reason why people are trying to get you to understand, is that you can serve as an example. If others see that you take the time to ask for permission from artists, they’ll start doing it too, and posts like this won’t even be necessary! You have a huge presence on this site, and that’s why people are asking you first to change your behaviour. We just want you to use your powers for good.
Second of all, your view on reposting is absolutely terrible. I am actually completely and utterly horrified. Maybe it hasn’t been explained to you properly? So I’m going to try and explain this from my point of view, as a writer:
I post my work online so that I can get feedback, not for business opportunities. I don’t expect to get a job that way, and I don’t want anyone else trying to get me one by running around with my work. Many artists don’t make art for the sake of making money (and besides, there isn’t a lot of money there unless you’re insanely successful). You have to bleed to succeed, and it’s hard enough to get noticed when people take your work and put it somewhere else without a source. Okay, so you source the work; but what if someone specifically tells you not to? You’re not helping the artist. In fact, doing what you are doing is the same as taking that art and ripping it to shreds. If you don’t respect the creators wishes, you have absolutely no business in saying that you “appreciate their art”. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s beautiful. You should be mature enough to be able to restrain yourself from reposting artwork, even with a source. The artist is far more important the art in this case. Not everyone is flattered by reposts.
But I’m frankly shocked that you believe that you are doing these artists a favour by not listening to them. How can you insist that you know what’s good for them, when you haven’t even taken the time to talk to them? Have you asked them why they don’t want their work reposted? Have you taken the time to wonder why anyone wouldn’t want all this “great publicity”? I understand that it doesn’t make any sense to you, but you need to listen to these artists. Otherwise that art you love so much? They’ll stop making it. And then where will we be?
Look, I really want to like this blog as much as anyone else, and I’d love to give you another chance, but I think this is the last straw for me. I’m sorry, but I’m not sure that even this argument will convince you to stop. I just thought I’d try.
Oh, and no one can stop you? I’m sure if I (and others) will gladly report your violation to Tumblr if we have to. If you don’t stop and listen to everyone trying to help you, you’re going to get reported.
I am not trying to attack you. I’m trying to make sure that artists who can’t speak the language I’m currently typing in have a voice here, when they’re constantly being drowned out by people like you.
