Make digital color choices look more traditional: Updated Digital Color wheel. Remember, in computers, there are 6 primary colors. This is because computers make color using numbers. RGB, CMY. Use this chart to color pick. Start in the middle of each box and move around inside them as needed. This helps keep the saturation and value grouped together. It’s basically a simplified color picker box. First time going to the beach all senior year. I tend to automatically choose cooler colors when doing a plain air painting at sun set because of the warm light tints my pastel choices. I blocked this out at the beach and then adjusted the values at home.

Learning how to use procreate and blending modes to get more texture in my digital work. A pressure sensitive iPad stylus would be amazing but I don't have one yet. Any recommendations? Ones I've researched say they aren't working great yet. Still waiting for newer models to come out.

Arranging a pastel palette by warmness helps keep your color choices more harmonious. Red is the hottest. Blue is the coldest. Violet is tricky; it doesn't follow the usual spectrum order.

Messing with color. This is with photoshop. anyone have advice for getting different shaped pastel marks other than the round strokes that square or circle type brushes have? I know about brush shapes, but still haven't managed to find one that looks good/ more real.

Computer color mixing wheel:

I was thinking about digital colors. About how colors on the computer don’t mix like they should. They don’t mix like paint (subtractive color) but they also don’t mix like light (additive). I was stumped but intrigued. After playing with a few color mixes I asked myself, paint and light are based on primaries. Colors that can’t be mixed. So then what were the primaries to computer colors?

The answer was all 6 colors that encompassed additive and subtractive. Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Magenta. Because if you mix them together you get the in between colors and they will stay vibrant. But if you mix their own group with each other, like additive with additive, you get dull versions of what they would normally mix if mixing paint or light.

It’s because computer don’t mix color, but rather average numbers that make up the two colors overlapping to get the product color. So you have to have an additive and subtractive color to keep the chroma balance pure.
