Just like she had expected, Ysabelle regretted ever attending the ball. Something about being in a fancy dress that choked her, simply tired her out. The sun was clearly beginning to rise, which mean she was late to her duties. Miss Milla would have her head for this but as she heard her door open, she pulled her covers over her head. Not even bothering to check if it was a noble or a servant--or worse, Miss Milla. "Ugh, five more minutes." She groaned from underneath the covers. The last thing she wanted to do was get out of her bed.
She had mostly expected her to say ânoâ, so when the mystery girl actually takes Elia up on her offer, Elia canât help but be surprised. But sheâs pleased none the less. âOh, excellent,â Pushing off the wall, Elia adjusted the lute, so she can cradle it carefully in one arm before offering an elbow to the girl just to her side, much like a gentleman would. âShall we then?â
Seeing the offered elbow made Ysabelle smile grow, reminding her of the many times her and her few friends would mock the nobles. With a little chuckle she took her elbow, straightening out her back. "Lead the way." She replied, beginning to walk towards the door leading to the garden.
Prim and Proper | Ysabelle & Nyla
"I suppose you and I will have to agree to disagree then." If only that in itself wouldnât be as hard as pulling teeth. Ysabelle seemed set on not aagreeing with a noble no matter what the cost. Or maybe not a noble so much as her. How she interacted with others was completely beyond her. Nyla liked to think the woman wasnât so brooding, so pessimistic every day of her life. It wasnât a pleasant way to live, scowling, always watching your back, thinking that there was no good in the world you lived in. Because there was. Her expression was still neutral, shoulders back, chin up, something her mother had always taught her, and it faltered only the slightest at her words. Words that she had heard more than enough growing up, words that, probably, still rang true to this day. She could remember it so clearly, a scolding when she shared her opinion, a shushing when she spoke too much, punishment when she dare think outside of the traditional role she was born into. "Maybe. Youâre probably right, in fact, but I donât want to live that way." Nyla had made that decision long ago and her comment wasnât going to change that the slightest. "And I will not live that way. I am no comfortable or happy accepting things the way they are. It may be futile, it may be reckless, the idea that things could change. That a noble could respect a servant without having ulterior motives. That you could openly own that dress and not have to sneak and hide. That we, as women, can be seen and heard and listened to and respected, but that is what I believe. Call me a dreamer, a coward wanting to escape, but that is what I believe and nothing will change that.â
Her words fell from her mouth, quick, assertive as she spoke, eyes glued to the brunette before her, her cheeks a little flushed once she finished. âSo you and I can continue this⊠whatever you wish to call it or we can focus on what makes us alike more so than what makes us different and maybe be surprised by what we find.â Her voice assertive, yet calm, Nyla held the dress out to her. âOr you can take your dress and I will be on my way. we can steer clear of each other and like so you nicely put âbe seen and not heardâ.âÂ
Ysabelle made no motion to interrupt her, instead she stood by and listened. It was obvious that they shared different opinions on almost everything but there was one thing they had in common; a dream of equality, but unlike Nyla, Ysabelle didn't believe that day would ever come. The servant girl wasn't a dreamer and when she said she lived in reality, she meant it. Knowing that servants were treated horrible, just for the reason that they were servants, anger her. It made her blood boil and it was the one thing that was pushing her away from the person she once was, but she also knew that her opinion didn't matter. That she would not live to see the day were she would be treated the same as a noble. "Such a beautiful way of thinking." She finally replied, her head tilting to the side. "But oh, so foolish. We both can stand here and dream about the day were we will both be treated equally but we both know that day is not going to happen in this era. A respected woman is rare to the point I only serve one woman who has power and is not married. One single woman in a Manor full of them."
Taking a step forward, her eyes locked to Nyla's brown one, she took back her dress. Clenching her teeth she didn't respond. The crease between her eyebrows intensifying as she fought a battle between herself. Ysabelle hate towards the nobles sometimes blinded her, but even though both of them shared different opinions, she didn't hate her. Holding her head high, she finally replied. "Like I said before, I'm not here to make friends but I have to hand it to you; you are one patient woman, other nobles would have sent me to the prison already." She paused, "Which reminds me, what makes you think this dress is for me?"

"I donât mind," Elia says with a shake of her head as she completes her task of retuning the lute in her grip before she casts a look over the spinning masses before them. "But, if you are  not feeling well, you are more than welcome to join me the gardens for some fresh air." Elia got the feeling the girl wished to be alone and she respected that, but regardless she still offered. Â
Letting out a small sigh, she let her eyes drift back to the girl beside her before drifting back to the crowd. One she did not wish to join. Forcing the corner of her lips to twist up into a smile she nodded. "That would be lovely, actually."
Clairac had, regrettably, been caught up with business on a night heâd hoped to escape such obligations. Discussing such matters while his mind wandered to the ball â and the woman heâd asked to accompany him â proved to be quite difficult, but the Reeve did his best to rush the conversation along as quickly as he could afford to. When he was at least freed, Clairac hastily secured the mask over his eyes and walked bristly to the ballroom. It was filled to bursting with partygoers, music, and food. A truly marvelous occasion, but he had only one destination in mind. He knew what sheâd be wearing, considering heâd procured the gown for her, and it wasnât too long before he caught Ysabelle making her way through the crowd. He reached for her hand and pulled her in, an arm wrapping securely around her waist as he led her into a dance. âI am dancing with the most beautiful belle of the ball,â he answered, placing an uncharacteristically gentle kiss to her cheek. âSincerest of apologies for my tardiness, mâlady.â
The moment she realize who it was, a sigh of relief slipped from her fingers but at the same time, her body tensed up. His features may have been hidden behind a mask, but she could recognize his voice anywhere. Somehow his absence had both surprised and comforted Ysabelle. As long as she was not with him she didn't have to pretend to be a proper lady. "You scared me!" She hissed through her teeth, because for a split moment she had thought that her dancer had been a stranger. At least with Clairac she didn't have to worry about her cover being blown. With his arm secured around her waist, she let him guide her through the dance. Her own dark eyes watching the rest of the dancers around her, attempting to mimic their steps. His gentle kiss catching her by surprise, it both comforted and scared her. Looking up, she let a cheesy grin through. "Well, belle is part of my name." She joked, before clearing her throat, remembering who she was dancing with. Her eyes lowered immediately. "I mean--thank you, my lord, for your kind words. You have nothing to worry about, I'm sure you had much more important issues to attend to."
"Honestly, the only reason I can tell is because itâs the sort of thing I do." She explained with a small shrug. "I have never been a big fan of these things, I like to watch people dancing really and that is about it."
Raising a brow, Ysabelle looked at the red-headed girl. "Great, we found something in common." The sarcasm dripping from her words. Her words let her knew that she was a noble and immediately she backed away. "Not a social person, are you. How--odd."
"It maybe rude, however, If you do not feel well no one would mind if you just slipped away." He told her with a suggestive tone, hoping that she understood what he suggested to her. Giving her a soft chuckle he shrugged his shoulders. "Nore do I, not really, I just like to pretend I am better than I actually am. So if you did do me the honour of dancing with me, I wouldnât judge you because iâd be as clumsy and if you stood on my foot, i wouldnât cause a fuss." He offered her a gentle smile, hoping he was able to talk her into a dance.
Dark eyes hidden behind mask starred up at Owun before they looked away, his comment going unanswered. Ysabelle knew she had promised Clairac to blend in, but a part of her rather be left alone in the back than to pretend to be someone she wasn't. The dress alone felt like a burden on her. "I never said I can't dance, I simply said I don't dance."
Smiling softly, Emlyn nodded and looked over at the dark haired girl. âOkay, I will. Itâs alright, iâm not the best person with people.â Emlyn said looking out at the party. âI take it that youâre not having the best of nights.â
"I'm starting to think I'm making that very obvious." She replied with a small chuckle. "But considering you're back here with me, the same can be infer about you."
Hearing the bite in her tone, Hyala knew there was little conversation to be had with this moment. Thinning her lips as her eyes moved away from her, she tried to think of anything to comfort the woman. It seemed she was too intent in being miserable. With a slow nod, the woman dipped into a small curtsy and nodded to the other. âI do hope your night improves.â
"I hope so too." She mutter, looking away from the mysterious blonde woman. It seemed, Ysabelle was the only one not enjoying herself. And a part of her did wish to join everyone else in the dancing and talking, but the fear of giving away her true identity loomed over her. "And I hope you keep enjoying yours. It is a lovely night for those fortunate enough to enjoy it." She added, out of kindness.
"Not everyone is a party person, if you are not having fun, why do you stay, if you donât mind me asking?" He questioned the lady in front of him with the same curious look he usually had. "You are perfectly fine My Lady." He told her offering a slight bow. "May I request a dance?" He asked hoping he could talk her into it.
Ysabelle couldn't help but flinch at being called my lady. She hated having to pretend to be the people she so loathed and now, he was reminded her of that. "It would be rude of me to simply leave." She lied through her teeth, though the only reason she was even enduring that party, was because of Clairac. Ysabelle didn't know what he would do if she just left, and she rather not find out. At the sound of his request she tensed up, if she even dare step foot into the dance floor, she knew she would humiliate herself. Or worse, blow her cover. "I-I'm sorry. I don't dance." She replied, turning her head away.
"I see," Elia comments before letting her eyes drift back to the crowds dancing in front of them. Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves as they laughed and danced to the upbeat music echoing through the large room, some of them appeared to drunk to the point where it was a wonder they were even standing at all, but not the girl next to her who was completely removed from it all. And itâs all the more obvious to Elia now that the womanâs said it outloud. Given that it doesnât appear to be working and attending to anyone here thereâs a few conclusions Elia can draw from it, "Bored from the get go or forced to come here then?" she asked, her fingers moving to twist the pegs on the lute in her grip.Â
For a split moment Ysabelle didn't reply. The honest part of her wanted to say she had been forced to come here, but she knew that would only bring out more questions that she could not answer. "The first option." She replied with a small smile, knowing that would not arise more questions. "I simply don't feel well today, but I doubt you want to spend your free time with me, so please, enjoy the party."Â
"A dash of humbleness is good, but Iâm merely being honest. At most I just know chords and nothing elaborate," Elia chuckled quietly as she settled comfortably against the stone wall, but being sure to keep a respectful distance from the masked woman beside her. "A friend of mine plays much better than I and Iâm certain that even if I were to practice every day for the rest of my life, I couldnât hope to match his skill. My talent lies mostly in singing. The instrument is here just to just provide a small tune." Elia explained before turning to the lady beside her. "If you donât mind me asking, what brings you to this lonely little corner? Tired of all the merry making?" her question is straightforward, but gentle.
"Very well then." Was all she said, knowing that she hadn't heard the woman play before. If she wanted to be humble or not, that was her problem. It wasn't in Ysabelle place to judge her playing skills without ever hearing them herself. Swirling her drink, she slowly took a sip out of it. Her eyes on the crowd before them. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves--except for Ysabelle. Letting out a sigh she turned to look at the mysterious woman beside her as she spoke. "Well in order to be tired of all the merrymaking, I would need to have to be enjoying myself in the first place."
