It crawled into Gray’s lungs like poison, thick and suffocating, laced with the will of the water dragon—Anchor—pulling everything down into its crushing depths. The current twisted violently, dragging bodies, magic, hope… everything.
Her body was already sinking, her movements slower than they should be… her magic flickering weakly, like a candle drowning in its own wax. The poison was eating at her. This wasn’t something she could control.
Gray’s chest tightened—not from the lack of air.
The kind that claws through bone and settles into the soul.
Didn’t care about the dragon, the battle, the mission—none of it mattered.
He forced his body forward, muscles screaming as he cut through the water, ice forming instinctively around his arms to break the current’s pull. His vision blurred, his lungs burned, but he kept going.
Because she was still falling.
Because she was slipping away.
His hand finally caught her wrist.
Her body trembled weakly as her eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first… then landing on him.
A soft, fragile smile… like she had already accepted it.
“No—” His voice didn’t come out right, swallowed by the water, but his expression said everything. His grip tightened, pulling her closer, anchoring her to him like he could force reality to obey.
Her hand lifted weakly… touching his chest.
As if he was the one who needed comfort.
And something inside him—
That whisper from before echoed in his mind.
“…I didn’t know… I loved her this much…”
He had said it like a realization.
This wasn’t quiet anymore.
It filled his lungs more than the poison ever could.
It roared in his chest stronger than any magic.
He pulled her fully into him, one hand sliding behind her neck, holding her there—not gently, not hesitantly—but with certainty.
With love he could no longer deny.
Her eyes widened slightly, breath catching—
His lips crashed against hers as if he could give her air, give her life, give her everything he had left. The world disappeared—the dragon, the battle, the poison—

His hand tightened behind her neck, pulling her closer, refusing to let even the water separate them. His other arm wrapped around her, shielding her body against his like he could protect her from the very ocean itself.
