Hi! If you’re taking requests, I’d love a Hanabishi x Reader set during a village summer festival/Tanabata. The villagers start spreading rumors that Hanabishi likes the reader and even begin placing bets that he’ll end up dancing with them by the end of the festival.
Hanabishi insisting they’re all wrong, but as the night goes on, he slowly realizes he cares more than he thought and doesn’t like the idea of them dancing with anyone else. I’d love for it to end with them sharing a dance!! 🫶 (´◡`)
Author notes: HIHI IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG it just started with a lot of procrastination, but then I went on vacation out of state, and now we have to basically completely clear out the entire basement including my room because we have to take off the dry since the basement flooded. ANYWAY I HOPE THIS ISNT TOO SHORT

Hanabishi was really getting sick of it. With the up and coming festival tonight, he couldn’t go anywhere without being asked who he was going to dance with. Not even his own friends and father spared him.
“You only have so many years left to find a woman you know?”
Despite how few women lived in the village, and how rare he left the village, he would rather stay in high school forever than have to kidnap a woman. No matter how much he denied any accusations though, the whole village knew that was a lie. Seito, the person he almost considered his own brother, always saw every stolen glance at you. Something he’ll always hang over Hanabishi’s head is the time when all three of you were kids. Hanabishi was so shy about giving you a flower, that right after he handed it to you, he ran off(and fell).
“What makes you think I’ll ask her! You know I’m not into that type of stuff.”
“Just say you’re too scared.” Boron added.
“It’s not like she’ll wait for you forever.”
Hanabishi creased his brows despite how much he wanted to seem nonchalant about the situation. He knew that everyone was right, and that he had to grab his best chance while it was still there. It seemed he could no longer run from his real feelings.
Hanabishi was lost in his own thoughts while carefully threading a needle through the fabric of his Frankenstein, personally styled, yukata for the festival.
“You’re so oblivious!” Seito remarked.
He tore his gaze from the patchy yukata and frowned at the blue haired boy.
“It’s pretty obvious she’s got the same feelings for you!”
Hanabishi slammed his hands onto his knees and yelled “Don’t patronize me!”
Seito doesn’t even flinch, as this is normal behavior for Hanabishi, and laughs.
“You should get her flowers! The same kind you got her that day all those years ago!”
Hanabishi only huffed, and gave no response. Seito took that as enough confirmation.
“I’ll go with you to help you pick the best flowers!”
“I’m only doing this because you won’t stop pestering me about it just so you know.”
Hanabishi crouched in the same field of flowers he did when you and him were 5 years old. Despite looking like he was concentrating on which flowers to pick, he was lost in thought about every “what if” scenario. Truth be told, he was scared. If you rejected him, it’s not like he could avoid you considering how tiny the village is. If tonight went south, it could ruin his close friendship and deep rooted trust in you. He suddenly shook his head and slapped his face. He’s Hanabishi! He’s not supposed to be scared! He’s gonna confess and dance with you tonight.
By now, the majority of the group had split off and disappeared in different corners of the festival. On this rare occasion, nearly the entire village bustled and chattered with bright lights and dancing.
“You ready?” Seito enthusiastically slapped Hanabishi’s shoulder.
Hanabishi simply huffed, but it was clear he was determined. His friend only watched with a grin as Hanabishi stomped off on a mission to search for you. It was a generally quick trek as there were only 3 women attending the festival who weren’t elders or Nora’s sister. Only did when he finally spot you sharing sweets with Mariha. He always appreciated how kind you were to his sister no matter how bratty she can be at times. Mariha nearly tackled him to the ground in a hug while you trailed behind. Figuring Mariha would cling to him like usual, he and Nora pulled a couple strings. When he was sure Nora had whisked Mariha away, did he take his chance.
“Do you know who you'll ask to dance with tonight?”
“About that… has anybody asked you?”
After you shook your head, Hanabishi shoved a bouquet of flowers into your face while avoiding eye contact. You only blinked at the flowers a couple times before hesitantly taking the flowers. Considering how erratic hanabishi can be, you worried you were misunderstanding social cues.
“Don’t read too deep into it but… I need someone to dance with and I wanted to ask you.”
Once you were reassured you gave no hesitation in accepting his invitation and yanking him by his wrist to the center of the festival. He seemed afraid to touch you before you took his hands in both of yours and started swaying. To Hanabishi, the rest of the lights and people became a blur in his peripheral vision as he focused on you. If Hanabishi weren’t at a loss for words right now, he would tell you that your smile and the reflection of the festivities in your eyes were more beautiful than any flower he could find at the tallest mountain in this goddamned village.
Too bad Hanabishi couldn’t see Seito and Nora winking at each other.
