Upon hearing the sound from the other end of the phone call, you dropped whatever you were doing. You made it to his place in record time, letting yourself in with the spare keys he gave you.

It’s getting dark outside and not even a single light is on inside the house. Following the faint sound of his sobs and hiccups, you headed to his room.

Your heart broke at the sight of your best friend curled up on his messy bed, tangled in the blanket you got him for his birthday last year. The only source of light is the candle burning at the corner of his desk.

“Hey, i’m here”, you gently touched his shaking shoulder. He turns around, eyes red and watery, cheeks wet from his tears. You said nothing and pulled him into a hug. He buried his head on the crook of your neck, crying harder than before. You tightened your grip around him, feeling your eyes water as well. 

Your hands rubbed his back as his tears soaked your sweater. This is not the first time it has happened, but everytime you prayed it’ll be the last. Your best friend doesn’t deserve to suffer this way, he deserves to be happy, to be free, to not have to care about whatever was written on the internet.

“You wanna talk about it ?”, you asked, feeling him shake his head.

You sighed, and kept rubbing his back. 

Whoever did this to him, whoever did this to anyone, they don’t deserve to be called humans. How can they use words as weapons to hurt others, how can they turn something that was supposed to be beautiful into something so lethal and destructive ?

You’ve read the comments, you’ve read the never ending hate he received, you’ve listened  to people talking shit about him with your own ears. It doesn’t even matter how much love and support he’s receiving because at the end of the day, the heart just chooses to take all those bullets.

You tried keeping him off the internet, from reading what’s written. But his job heavily involves social media engagements. He has to do livestreams, he has to interact with his fans. He would always notice the hate in a sea of love and support, he would always let it consume him.

“Thank you-”, he sobbed.

“I don’t deserve you, but you came anywa-”

You didn’t let him finish his sentence, “you have me, you’ll always have me”

Sometimes you just wished that he would stop listening, stop feeling, stop caring.
