Nara Lokesh Launches 800 MW Tata Power Wind-Solar Project in Kurnool and Anantapur

Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT Nara Lokesh performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a massive 800 MW renewable energy project spanning Kurnool and Anantapur districts on July 30, 2026. The clean energy project, developed by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), comprises a 400 MW solar power plant at Pattikonda in Kurnool district and a 400 MW wind power project at Kanekallu in Anantapur district, involving a total investment of around Rs 5,750 crore. Officials, including Nara Lokesh, marked the occasion with the traditional ceremonial digging using ornate shovels, a customary practice in India to signal the formal start of major infrastructure works.

This integrated wind-solar project underscores the growing momentum behind Andhra Pradesh's transition toward sustainable power generation. Speaking at the event, Nara Lokesh said the state is focused on building a world-class ecosystem that speeds up clean energy adoption, draws responsible investment, and supports sustainable industrial growth, adding that the project reflects rising investor confidence in the state's policy direction. He further noted that Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy capacity had expanded sharply over the past year, crediting the growth to efforts to restore investor trust after earlier disruptions to power purchase agreements. TPREL will serve as the developer for the 400 MW wind power component, while Suzlon Energy has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the wind portion of the project in Anantapur, explaining the Suzlon-branded safety helmets worn during the ceremony. Also present at the event were Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, along with other senior state government officials and company representatives. Dr. Sinha highlighted that the project strengthens Tata Power's long-standing partnership with Suzlon, taking their combined renewable portfolio past the 1 GW milestone and reinforcing the company's broader commitment to India's clean energy transition.

The remaining 400 MW capacity of the overall project will be developed by TPREL for NTPC, comprising a 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) segment paired with a 25 MW/50 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), with an additional 200 MW of solar capacity kept available for future allocation. The project has also secured 800 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity through the Ananthapuram-II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations, ensuring efficient evacuation of the power generated.
